Waders - Striper Talk Striped Bass Fishing, Surfcasting, Boating

Im a surf caster. I have these bulky rubbery waders that make it difficult to walk the beach...I do alot of walking. The outer cape waters are cold so the bulky ones I have keeps things warm. I am looking to get a thinner pair/warm, that feel more like pants and are easier to walk the distances. Do I have to get boots separate? One piece would be best. Suspenders would be good too. Anybody got any ideas...links would help. Something that is easy on the wallet.

Do a search on waders. I bet there are 500 threads on waders, neopreme, bootfoot, stocking foot, rubber, breathables, lightweight, you name it.

Welcome to the site. There are plenty of options for you. Look into neoprenes with the boot foot if you want to be warm. But keep in mind that neoprenes are really uncomfortable in the warmer months. Most people switch to breathables when it warms up. You can pick up a pair cheap, but as with everything else, you'll probably get what you pay for. Check out LL Bean, Cabelas or another outdoors store.

Agreed that there are tons of posts out there. My 2 cents is buy breathable with a little room in them. You can layer long underwear and fleece and be warm in almost any weather. I wear mine all year clamming and trout fishing in winter with no problem. Another thing - They all will leak eventually, so consider LLBean or others with a return policy or essentially they become disposable.

Go with a breathable pair. I have some cheap ones from LL Bean, around $60 or so for the stocking boot, and they have served me well. Can wear them in the middle of August with shorts underneath and the middle of December with some layers and be equally as comfortable.

Wore mine trout fishing a few weeks ago in sub 40 degree weather and I was pretty comfortable. Pair them with a nice pair of boats and it will make walking on the beaches much easier.

look in to the snowbee brand breathables .I have been wearing mine for 3 seasons . All types bootfoot avaible , studded , felt ,etc like wearing a sneaker

Breathables, breathables, breathables. When it's cold, just use some fleece or sweats underneath. Get boot foot when walking in sand, stocking foot with supportive wader boots for rock hopping.

What JohnR said. Go to LL Bean store or online. With boots $150 without boots $100, very decent boots were about $65 if I remember correctly (less when on sale or have a coupon or get their charge card). Do not, repeat, do not get their/LLBean studded things. Get "Korkers". They may carry then as well, but I think I went to Cabela's for the Korker's. One advantage to being in Hartford, you can drive to both in about 30 minutes. Much longer drive to fish though.

that IS cheap, I wonder what's wrong with them that they can sell them for so little

I put these things on and all I can say is "SHAMWOW"!.

Seriously these appear to truly be topnotch.The true test is getting in the water obviously.Out of the box they wear and feel like you wouldn't believe.

At $41 bucks I consider this one of the best fishing deals I've ever scored.Time will tell though.

I grabbed at the deal for breathables, $48.00 and change shipped. Can't beat that. The last good deal I got was $65.00 for hodgeman breathables on half price sale.

I also received my pair of Albright waders today. A pair of Trinity waders, regular price 139.00 plus shipping. i got them for a little under 48.00 including shipping fees. Top notch stuff at a great deal. (70% off regular price) how can you you go wrong with that? they seem very durable. We will see in the spring.

Welcome to the site NutBag. that's funny...

anyways, JohnR is right on - if you fish almost exclusively in the sand, you will be better off with bootfoots because the sand will get inbetween your stocking foot and wading boots. The best thing to get is bootfoots that have a built in wading boot that you can actually lace up and provide good support, traditional bootfoots do not provide very good support for you ankles, which you need when walking the sand long distances.

I ordered them but haven't got them yet...just looking for a boot now...the boot on the albright site didnt have my size.

once i get the waders in the mail im going to show up to a party with them on.
i have the fishing bug wicked bad these days. cant wait to cast.

Thanks.....so I need to decide between the felt sole and the rubber. I guess the felt sole is good for slippery rocks....I might go with the rubber, I am mostly on the beach.

You can always get a set of Korkers for rock hopping.

I feel a hell of a lot safer with a set of spikes on my feet.
