Coast Guard Rescuse of off Newport

Some sailors got there boat caught in the fishing nets of off Land End. How this ended in a Black HAwk helicopter rescue is beyond me. I thought you just called the CG who called the net owners and everyone just worked it out. I guess it was rough seas. Another reason to require boating license for salt. Really how the hell do you run into a fish net unless you do not know what the heck it is or can not read a chart?

Memorial day is coming in 2 weeks.
The coast guard will be busy over the next few weeks.
There is always some who think it's a good idea to put 7-10 on a 17ft boat to go fishing, count on it !!!

LETS GO BRANDON

Apparently the numbnuts don't know what trap buoys are, I guess....maybe missed 'em on the charts too...

Heard on the news the Coasties couldn't hoist them off the sailboat because they couldn't drop the sails...

They had to put on survival suits, jump over the side and get picked up from the water with the help of the rescue swimmer.

I'll tell ya, I can see the Harbor from my deck and every time I see the CG chopper come over my house on their way out or hear the Falcon come over on a low pass I wince...you know it's never a sight seeing excursion...

And some of the stories don't turn out so well -

"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.
