Just got back from fishing 9pm-5:30am at the canal. Only brought a light sweatshirt because the forecast called for a low of 54. Boy was that a mistake.
One nice thing with the cold is that there weren't any mosquitoes even though there wasn't a breath of wind, until the sun started warming things up. Who knows if this is true or not, but I heard that they cannot fly if the temperature drops below a certain point. Anyone know if this is true or not?

it was crazy cold down here last night, my hands started to get a little numb between the wet line and temp. fish didn't seem to mind tho . if mosquitoes are eating you guys up, you have to try that new off clip on fan type thing. ya it looks pretty stupid but the thing works and you don't have to spray bug spray on every 15 mins.

I woudl imagine that this is what it's like in Russia or Alaska during the summer time ... and yes it's freaking crazy, although despite the crazy hail the other day ... when I lived in Washington D.C. back in the late 80s for a season, it was mid summer, hot as can be and the hail was coming down so hard you had to run for cover ... hot 80+ temps, but must have been mighty cold up in the clouds ...

Seriously...try stuffing a sheet or two of Bounce fabric softener around your neck. I thought it was crazy...but it worked like a charm building a dock in Maine last weekend, I was impressed. Just have to keep it in place.

My buddy gave me a bunch of bounce sheets last week along with a bag of shads, said they are great for keeping bugs out, he hangs em in his truck that he camps in.

A top 10 day today IMO..Not a cloud in the sky and light winds and in the direction I wanted for the tide too. The ONLY benefit of working nites is you can fish during the weekdays, although you are usually a zombie. Hit the water at 6 with my daughter for her first fluke trip. Warmed up quickly and was into T shirts by 9. Must have caught 30 fluke between the both of us but only 4 over 18.5". She had a ball and I explained it isn't always this good.
