Newsflash: Van Stall Pliers don't float!

I use them on the boat and yesterday we were onto a sick bite of mostly undersized fluke. Every fluke was between 16 and 18 inches (NY we need 21 inches). Me and a buddy probably released 70-80 fluke. I was using the Van Stall pliers to pull hooks from the toothy little &^$%^&&*! without bringing them into the boat.
Yup. I dropped them. Water was only 9 feet deep but the current was quick or I would have gone in after them.
So other than the lanyard which really doesn't work on the boat what can you put on the new pliers to make them float???

in the 8.5" version are a good tool for unhooking fish.....better I think for that task than the VS's. Pretty cheap. They supposedly make a version with carbide cutters as well. Pop the plastic spring out.

Not to take anything away from the VS's. They're a nice tool and nice tools pay themselves back over your lifetime....if you don't mind the hassle of a lanyard.

Use a lanyard. Not sure why that's an issue on a boat. Sorry for your loss.

i've seen guys clip a small buoy on boca grips on a boat. that would work but seams cumbersome. i'd wear nice pliers on you belt with a lanyard and buy a cheaper pair to have loose on the boat for others. dr. slick are pretty nice and not too expensive.

I've been using a pair of Rapala pliers for years....never had an issue, I just hit them a couple of times a season w/ some master mechanic and they work fine.

That being said I lost mine last week as I left them on the bumper of the truck when I drove off....I'll get a new pair of the same.

I have mine clipped to my pants with an old curly telephone receiver cord. Stretches about 7 feet. More than enough

No boat, back in the suds.

I use an extra HD mic cord from my old CB radio on my Boga - it's not going anywhere

Yup, that's about right, Paul - maybe even a year or two earlier

I had the CB in my 1970 Mercury Cougar with a 351 Cleveland that I used to drive to Florida - and that old girl flat ass flew

Had to keep an eye out for Smokey, ya know...

The guy who tuned it up for me was a former pit mechanic at Daytona - at 110 she still had a lot of pedal left but the suspension was too soft to drill it all the way

Damn, every time I hear the Allman's Southbound I think of that good old girl on the road to FLA...

Boy, talk about livin' in the past...
