At the request of several people...

At the request of several board regulars, starting next week, you will need to register (if you already haven't) and then logon to the message boards to post. I have always wanted to maintain an open board and it will still remain that way but login will be necessary to protect the privacy of others.

This will allow several things.

First, this will address the concerns of some people that someone else could post something under someone else's board name.

Second, when you post or reply as a "logged in" member, you can modify your posts or replys after submitting them.

Third, several features (not Microsoft bug-style features :P ) will be added that take advantage of being logged in such as personal messaging, advanced groups and other cool (or lame) stuff.

And a note as far as your privacy, I NEVER, EVER give out any of your information to ANYONE for ANY reason.

So... If you have any questions, post them or e-mail me...

After your logged in and you leave and forget to logout does this mess with your server . The reason I ask is I always forget to logout . Im registered and I believe the server remembers IP addresses with email addresses The reason I notice this is I have a computer at work and 1 at home . Both using IP addresses which are different , I cant post from home keeps telling me someone else has my email address . This is my guess . So I may want to register 2 machines is there a problem with that . I have only 1 email address at this time . Any ideas on this .

I logged in about 3 weeks ago and don't plan on logging out, lol. Every time I come back I'm already logged in, so unless that's a problem, why log out?

Tight lines.

The way the board knows who you are when you re-connect is by a "cookie" in your internet folder. It then matches that cookie against the boards internal log file and if the two jive, it maintains your logged in status. If you access the site from several locations, like I do as well, the board would see the cookie not matching the internal log and prompt for you to log in. It will work until you try to connect from a different computer. If you do have problems, one thing you can do (and is good overall internet practice) is to clean your cache periodically. This will often speed up performance for a little while and can also correct wierd erros that happen from time to time with most sites.

Chris, With your registered account, you should be able to use that account from any machine. What happens when you try to use the same logon name and password from 2 different locations??

Thanks,

John

its a cookie thing . I have all my machines to diable cookies except this one ( i thought they were all set to accept no cookies oops ) and I changed it to Not to accept cookies and I have the same situation . The email address is used by someone else is what it tells me . My fault I should have double checked instead of ass u ming the setup . Thanks for the reminder . I hate allowing cookies to be set on my machines not cause of work too many people can access cookies and see where you go and when ( its the big brother syndrome )

The good, the bad, and the ugly cookie management. I like them because they can add usefull features but they can also be used for nastiness too. I had a user on my network complain that his IE4 kept opening up on him, turned out that some of the porn sites he was visiting using cookies as well as other tricks, kept opening up new porn site IE windows on his machine. He doesn't access the web from work anymore, hehehe...

I hate those pop up windows the porn sites use . Its hard to get all those windows to minimize quickly when a customer or my director comes in my office . LOL 1 good thing is the cookies on your server are short duration cookies a couple weeks where there are so many that set them for a couple years .
