Fishing Cape Ann

This week really has been great for fishing Cape Ann from a boat, some nice size bass have been caught. Live lining mac's is the best way to fish for the stripers. Seems like you could load your boat with mac's and stripers and some days it is harder to get enough mac's to fish.

A case in point of not enougth mac's was this morning when we tried over an hour to get mackerel, we got about a dozen. It took the dozen to get five stripers all 38" or little bigger. We could have loaded the boat if only we had more bait fish.

Here are three of the four fish that Jonas (jkjnp) boarded. The only reason he did not board all five is we had a double hook up. Only one fish was kept the other four were released.

Rought time of it on Sat.

Took a few hours to find the macs and only minutes for the dogs to drain the live well.

Not one bass all day. Frustrating........

Fished Saturday also, had no problem getting macs at 6AM, the problem was finding stripers. Did manage to get one at 42". Had my daughter and grand daugthers out Friday and stayed in the outer harbor and had some fun catching small fish in the 24" range.

Catching dogs with live bait? Are you trolling or anchored? If anchored you want to be against the rocks where there are no dogs. There are pods and pods of dogs.

what do you mean drifting deep? I take it that you mean your baits were deep. If so, try trolling about 2-2.2 knots no weight.

Matt,
Mouth of the harbor, out to Children's. Focus around can 1. Two kayakers jigging sabikis there the other day. One had a pen he put them in and drgged it beside/behind him.

Also go straight out from the point of the rockpile at Halibut Point get on the 30 fathom line and troll. For some reason the stripers like to hang out around the 30 fathom line.
