I got screwed by.....
....Yankee Fleet.
I made a reservation for last Sunday's pollock trip
and paid $64 online. I did this at 3PM on Saturday.
At 7PM I called and cancelled. Ticketmaster told me
it was non-refundable. I had looked all over the
Yankee Website for terms or cancellation policy and
found none. I was told to open a small box labeled
"Other Info". I had seen this box earlier and thought
it referred to minor items like tackle rental or food
concession. Sure enough up-popped a non-refundable
statement. Stupid me!!!! I'll call Yankee and explain.
The owner Tom Orrell wouldn't return my calls but girl
at desk said no exception. I said I was mislead by
"Other Info". Why not be honest and label the box
as "Terms" or "Policy". "Other info" is deceptive. Here
I was doing what Yankee suggested, making a reservation
and I get screwed for being Mr. Nice Guy. How petty!!
This is not a charter with non-refundable deposit, it's a
lousy head boat. No payment would have made in the
first place if the terms weren't hidden. Has anyone
else had a similar experience?
So who is right? Was I screwed by Scankee Fleet? You
decide--Stupid John or Secretive Tom

John, it used to be unless it was clearly printed on the credit card receipt the non-refundable clause is illegal. Call AG's office and ask them. Did any receipt you printed out have that policy on it. If it didn't they owe you.

If you paid online I would assume it was with a credit card.Call your card and tell them you would like to dispute the charge. It should work out in your favor, but if not try to plan another trip with the funds you already paid.If that is not an option you got porked.

Your issue is technically not with Yankee but Ticketmaster! I go with SeaDangles and dispute the charge on your CC company. What evidence if any do you have you cancelled?

Ticketmaster are a bunch of scumbags. They rape anyone that uses their services. Like PRBuzz and SeaDangles said, contest the charges.

Hey guys . . .
One of us can be John and go fishing for free!
Websites can be very confusing. When a business does something like this an not realize the faults of their website then that's like entrapment.
$hit-master, in this case, acts as Yankee representative.

Thanks guys. I have such a bad taste from
Skankee Fleet that I don't want their gift
certificate. I will give it to first offer of $30
(if I receive it) or put it on the raffle table
at MSBA. "Cat who jump on hot stove will
never jump on cold stove"

First call them back and inform them politely that you would like your money back and if they refuse you will call your credit card company and initiate a chargeback based on the fact that they failed to clearly disclose the website terms and conditions as a matter of closing the transaction. They will receive a $50 chargeback automatically from their card processor. Non refundable. You will get your money back no matter what card you paid with.

i guess i just have a different perspective on this. no disrespect to you john. it's like buying a ticket to a red sox game, 12 hrs before the game you decide not to go. is that on the red sox or on you? it would be decent of them to comp you another trip. if they comp you a trip i'll buy it off you at the regular price as i am going again soon.

Beamie, Niko,
You didn't read my post. If their non-refund policy
were openly displayed I would not have made a
reservation. So canceling in 12, 24 or 72 hours
would not matter. See my point now. Thanks
for input anyway. I have certainly learned.

Most lkely there was a check box that you had to check that said "I agree to these terms and conditions" to proceed to checkout.

There is the rub. You check the box, you agree to abide by the Ts and Cs. It's like a plane ticket unless you buy a refudable ticket, at a much higher price, you cancel your trip you are SOL.
$150 change fee and a higher price for the new ticket. I do it every week when customers cancel on me at the last minute. Happened to me Wednesday as I was getting on the plane to Tampa in Charlotte.

No boat, back in the suds.

I hate, even the same day, there is a significant charge. You have to go somewhere, it's just not where you were gonna go originally.
If the customer has a penchant for doing this, I get the full refundable ticket

I went on Yankee fleet twice for cod...(2006, 2007) drove all the way from central CT... both times the captain seemed to have a " I got your money already, so why does it matter if you catch fish or not" attitude. We would sit anchored up for almost 2 hours with very little action. I think he didnt feel like going through the effort of moving and anchoring...
he probably figured: more moves= more gas=less profit.
But the way I see it is: lousy attitude+ semi-rude disposition+ drunk lazy mate= disgruntled non-returning customer= less profit.
Youre not the only game in town, and with the internet, people talk! I wont mention the boat name....

For seventy dollars I would exspect a cooler full. Remember that when you go on them types of boats that carry 30 -50- people, only 10 per cent catch fish.

My wife bought tickets to a concert which has been cancelled by the performers (band website info) but has not been officially cancelled by the venue, so they will not issue a refund. Bunch of BS. My response is you have my money, send me tickets. They won't do that either. Merry Christmas!! Makes me kinda pissy.
