How can you scale plug from a picture?

For instance, Vineyard Blues had some gorgeous Nikies with him at plugfest. If one wanted to reproduce one or all from those pics I would think that you would need the measurements from at least one of the pikies or a pikie whose size you like to begin with. Any thoughts?

You want Nikes

If your looking for Nike's: http://www.striped-bass.com/Stripert...ge-thread.html
Now if Peter could put up some measurements on the Sizzler and Dart and Dart

You can have all the pictures and drawings you want...and have the dimensions for every quarter inch of the lure but better to have an original in hand if you want a proper replication. Just my .02 cents. Especially if you can get your hands on one?

You can use the ruler measurement from excel.

You can cut and paste the plug into the program and use the ruler for pretty close measurements.

If you know the length of the plug you stretch the ruler over the plug so the scale is right.

I've only done it a few times but someone else did a nice post about it.

I adjust the size of the photo on my monitor and measure with a ruler crude but it works for me. Did one yesterday of a very rare plug.

I just change the size by using the font adjustment and either going from 100 to 125 up or go the other way then print it and cut it out when I like the size and do my measuring from the printed pic. Works pretty good for me so far.

measures in inches or pixels can be pulled vertically or horizontally
of course... it helps to know the general
size of the plug or have something as a reference point such as a coin next to it

If you have a copier with zoom you can scale the lure by using simple ratios. If the picture of the plug measures 6 1/2" and you want your plug to measure 8" you divide 8 by 6.5 and get 1.23. Set the copier to that ratio, run the copy and take measurements from the new picture.

Actually that is what I did. I have a pattern of a large nikie, and using that as a starting point, the baseline, 100%, I adjusted everything else on the smaller version against that 7" version. Like Larry said it works best with an original to start with, which I am going to borrow hopefully, but the result were quite good I think. Especially measuring in MM"s one can get pretty GD close to what you want. Thanks for the answers. My interest in nikies peaked quite awhile ago, and after seeing Vineyard Blues display again at plugfest and drooling for six hours next to the Cow Killa's those are the ones I wouyld really like to repicate.

when you take a picture make sure you have something you can refernce from in the picture.....even if its just a dime or quarter.

Then take a caliper and measure the width of the quarter. then take a measurement of the plug in the same pic....find out how many "Quarters" there are that measurement.

Then take a caliper to a real quarter and multiply it by the number of "Quarters you got for a measurement.

You can do it for length and width......you can also do it to find when tapers start and such....

Hope this helps....It made sense while I was typing it at least
