Mass Bass Show most interesting product , newer Century models

I am really impressed with the newer line up of Century rod blanks. Got the chance to talk for some time to Big Dave and Ryan White and think they have made a lot of progress since last year on really zeroing in on what we tend to like in rod blanks for beach , jetty/breachway and Canal rods.

There are now several models that match up well with North East Style striper fishing. The prices on the lighter (lighter by Century standards) models we would use are also much closer or sometimes better than the comparable Lami blanks. They still offer the $300+ very long and powerful heavers but there are many new 1 to 4OZ or 2-5Oz or 3 to 7 Oz rod blanks in the 10 to 11 foot range.

Will there be any shops up here that will carry them or is Hatteras Jack exclusive?I was also curious whether they wil have 1 piece 10 &11's.I'm looking for a pencil blank for the canal and it seems by missing both shows I forfeited my chance to fondle some nice new products in CTS and century. 11' at 2-5 seems like a nice candidate but I have heard the CTS parabolic could be the ticket too.

I saw a demo and he was bending the spine pretty hard. He also asked a big guy to pull a two piece apart and he couldn't, you had to twist it to release - pretty cool! Super light and new smaller guides for braid - handle was smooth rubber (not sure if I liked the grip) otherwise pretty sweet and I think the 9.5 and 10 ft were about $230 which I thought was reasonaable.

i bought the 11ft 2to5 oz ... very powerfull but light , price was right. i was a hard sell on the 2 peice ,but i trust big daves knollage about the rods ...... dave is building one for me w/ the low rider guides and cross rubber grips, for canal casting.i'll let everyone know what i think of the rod by june 1 i hope

mike, does this mean your thinking twice about carrying the cts rods or are you going to carry both, let us know, matt

Any one know if carbon fiber holds up in the cold, or would it shatter ?

The fibers hold up in the cold , its the matrix resins you need to be concerned with. Typically , materials responses to cold are not the same as peoples responses to cold unless there is a significant amount of water involved. People are very concerned with 0 C because water freezes there and we are made of a lot of water but to other materials , temps in the range of 0C +/- 20-25 C are not usiually an issue but of course there are exceptions. I got to believe that the engineers designing the resins for these applications know it gets to freezing (o C) outside sometime.

I wouldn't worry about that too much.
