NEW Truck Rod Rack

So i finally decided to ditch my old pvc rod rack set up and have a custom one built. I went to Fastech Marine in buzzards bay and they hooked me up. Thing came out awsome, i wish i had it built 3 years ago. Pretty sleek design, it utilizes the stake pockes on the truck so no holes need to be drilled into my truck. They have them for all makes and model trucks, Good price too.

Seems like the first low-hanging branch would put a damper on your day.

I like the line that goes along the back window. Do they have gimbals to keep them from rolling around on you? Also who stays in the truck when you run to the store to load up on snacks/drinks for the day to watch the rods?

cool design.

seems that surf rod butts would be too long and the rod would sit way to high, like the first set up shows.

would be nice from going spot to spot or beach fishing.

would better if they had the cut out for the foot stem of the reel.

with some tweaking it could be a sick set up.

i agree with Chris' comments. you need to loose the bottom of the holder and have a slot for the reel foot stem. That way, short rod, long rod, doesn't matter, they all slide in and "lock" into the slot.

like johnny d said, the angle needs to be much flatter so that you can go under low stuff like tree limbs and dunkin drive thru.

When i made my homeade deal, I busted out some trig (first time since 10th grade) to figure the angle I needed to keep the height of a 10' rod rods at the tip low enough so it wasn't a concern... if i get a chance i'll post a pic.

i bent my wookie

I like the sleek look of the polished aluminium, but sorry, I think the angle is to steap, trees are one thing to hit they'll have some give but low bridges can be a suck and most importantly drive throus for Dunkin dognuts and Micky D's they range from 8'6"-10' also there should be a notch for the reel,I now in the PIC you posted the reel is to high up due to the rod butt bottoming out on the bed but you don't want that nice reel swaying side to side or hit the back windshield.

I think it's a good looking holder and Im sure you paid good coin for it,I feel bad to post this but a little more research could of gone a long way.

I agree on the slots for reels, and i pretty much just use it to get the rods down to the boat. Fastech did have a few other way and angles to choose from for longer SURF rods.

If you can't stand a zing, don't show the bling.

Nice rack! Curious, if you'd had the gold VS's would you have gold plated the aluminum?

Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

That would be a great setup for running along the beach not to sure about driving down the road with a long rod but it is pretty sweet.

Sorry if I came across the wrong way,I don't mean any disrespect at all,it is a great looking rack & nice welding job to boot.
I was just tossing in my opinion.

In my beginning of making my own truck rod racks I went through three different styles, and slowly figured out(I'm a slow learner) I need more angle on my design, then I needed it to be more compact, then I wanted it lockable and now I just want to rebuild another one.........I just don't have the time or resources to do my own welding

Good luck out there

Hope you get a discount from them for using your pics in their Craigslist ad......
