Use guys have an EPIRB on board?

They make some small rather inexpensive units now... Anyone consider it?

How inexpensive? I'm considering a safety raft once I start spending time with my son on board more when he grows up a little. I'd rather have us in a raft w/ small radio & flares waiting for the coasties, than telling them just where we went down... Just my early thoughts on the subject...

Sandy,
There will be an category 1 with gps on board this season, I used to carry a category B.
John,
If you're in a position to buy a raft right now, I'm in the process of putting together a group buy on another board. So far I've gotten prices on Revere rafts that are very good and I expect to get equally good prices on Vikings. Let me know.

I have thought about it quite alot. But the price has been so high. But what price do you put on your life?? My friend was struck by another boat and died last July and when his boat capsized the EPRIB went off and the coast gaurd notified his family that somethig was wrong. We were there with him in other boats. He died the instant he got hit there was nothing anyone could do!! But what if??
I will be Buying one in the next month!!

I'd be interested in the price if you want to PM me but I'll likely not be able to do something this year - still going to be a while before the boat gets wet...

Thanks,

John

I considered one, but the prices are still up there. I did put together a "ditch bag" which includes typical safety gear along with a handheld gps and vhf radio. The bag is waterproof and will float....

I will eventially get the EPIRB also though....

I have one ,but I had no choice. once you hold a com. lis. for cod fishing , everything changes,,flares epb. life jackets etc. you think reg. equip. is alot of $$.....a good epb. will run 5-6 hundred $$. funny thing is theres a big dead spot in front of chatham lt. an ebp's don't work,,,thats where I fish.

BOAT fish do count.
