Cod report for 8-6

We chartered the Yankee Capts for our annual trip. Left the dock at midnight on friday. Started fishing at 7am. A nice fin whale was about 20 feet of the side of the boat as we slowed down. It was a pretty slow day on the water. High hook for the day took about a dozen cod/haddock. I managed one cusk while the guys next to me got close to 50 of them each. Not sure what they were doing different, besides using lighter jigs in the 8-10 ounce range. Lost a fair amount of fish to blue sharks, funny they seemed to take the haddock and cod, but left the cusk unmolested more or less. One BFT was hooked up shortly when a guy was dropping his jig. A couple sunfish were spotted and a few pods of BFT were jumping. Nice day on the water but the fishing could have been better. I brought home 3 haddock, 1 cod and a cusk. Lots of throw back cod and pollack. I brought up the head of the pool winning cod. And lost a much bigger fish to another blue dog.

Everything is better on the rocks.

Thats a pretty good question. I would think maybe Caches ledge. We were in around 250' of water. I think its about 80 miles or so out of Gloucester, i may be wrong. Thats the only guess i really have.

Everything is better on the rocks.

I dock my boat at the same place that the Yankee Capts dock. They were out today.
