Tragedy in the Harbor (again)

Operating drunk a boat owner from Winthrop with 8-10 passengers slams a MOORED sailboat ejecting 2 people. One women later died.

Sorry for the loss, but WHAT AN A$$.
---11:30 weekend night
---admits to having 5+ drinks
---slams a moored boat
---then beaches his won boat

Word has it he was an officer at the Yacht club.
He should be facing homocide charges.

There is just NO EXCUSE for his actions.

Vice Commodore of Winthrop Yacht Club.

Yacht clubs aren't about boating/sailing/fishing anymore, they're social clubs for geriatric retards who can't play golf.

Very sad situation.

personally, I don't like running boats inshore at night, all the lights onshore play tricks with my eyes.

We used to belong to Wessagusett YC. A lot of the inner harbor yacht clubs are sh1t shows. There are some serious heavy hitters who put in a solid 8am to midnight case of beer by themselves both days on a weekend.

They are a cheap place to drink and bring in the pros. This plus boats can equal disaster.

My club does not have a bar. But I've seen plenty of partying.
I remember one day heading to the boat at 5am. There was a guy sitting at a table alone drinking a beer. My buddy said "He sure it starting early" I replied.....NO.....hes still going from last night.
Pretty sad. I'm not sure how many members go boating after getting juiced though, I never witnessed it.

I never drink on the boat. I say have a good safe day on the water, then have a beer at home while grilling up the fish you caught.

...except these booze hounds probably don't know how to fish, which is why they do the only thing they are good at......killing brain cells!

I agree, while I fish I do not drink. My reason? Why would I want to risk impaling myself or someone else with sharp hooks?

The problem we see more and more is that there tend to be more of these charter members of the "Budweiser Quality Control Board" than law enforcement on the water.

Maybe the harbormaster and coast guard could station boats at the end of the day in front of the marinas and give ALL boats the once-over? Kind of like a floating sobriety check point!

Remember that MOTOR VEHICLE OUI is the same for cars as well as boats. (At least that's what they "say".)

We'll have to wait and see if the Commadore gets a "wrist-slap" or real criminal charges pressed.

When the CG does safety inspections they also do this. They hammered S Dartmouth a few weeks back 2 weekends in a row all day long.

I never drink while I'm out on the boat...alcohol + boat + ocean = a big mess. Once I get back to the dock though....well, only a few actually because then I have to drive home.

The guy should be put in jail for vehicular homicide / manslaughter; what an idiot.
