You will have to put on some backing. Mono at least 20lb for backing. Then I put on the braid and I try to end up 2 to 3mm below rim. Some conventional reels work better 1/2" below. I also use about 5 turns of flourocarbon 40lb or mono 50 or 60 lb after braid for the bass that are smart enough to dive and rub on the rocks. You will get about 100 answers on this one and no one is right or wrong.....its just what you like......have a safe summer

thanks jeff, with the mono backing it should be ok. just concerned with buying a spool of 150yd and not having enough.

the question is ...how often will i set the hook more than a 150 yards or more out???
for me, (i bought 2 spools myself) the 150 on top of #20 backing will keep plenty on the spool. the uniknot is recommended to tie the mono to the superbraid. the palomar is recommended for tieing whatever to the superbraid

of all the things i've lost...i miss my mind the most!!

150 yds. would initially strike you as enough (if you are using mono backing).

You might want to consider how often you trim back on your braided line each trip (fraying, weak spots, etc) to estimate how much backing you want to use.

How much braid you need is really dependent on what you are going after. Going after stripers in 60ft of water, 150yds will work. Going after cod in 160ft of water, 150yds may not cut it. Especially after the first time you get hung up and have to break off. Speaking of break-offs, with 60lb test, you have to figure out how you are going to break off when the time comes. Just yanking will be harmful to rod and reel.
