Got my season started..........
Went out yesterday not really thinking I would catch anything but more to shake off the rust and try my new gear. Threw the waders in the Jeep and took a drive around Duxbury. Pretty windy in the bay so I found a sheltered spot and for an hour got into schoolie after schoolie! Birds working bait and I was pumped! I couldn't have asked for a better way to start unless I got a big slob on the end but that's not important to me as much as being in the outdoors and enjoying my area. Thanks Ross, the new St. Croix 7' is exactly what I was looking for in a schoolie setup. Matched with an LT Bass Pro reel and 20lb braid. They were digging the little pearl storm shads yesterday at dusk!

I struck out, but this turkey is on the board. I thought he'd never get it in.

Glad you like the rod and that it will be in someone's line up this year.
George, I think you are jealous of Alan's fish. Maybe we should have a little contest for the smallest striper this season.........
Have not gotten out yet. Am getting mulch spred and sillcocks hooked up. (which is another way of avoiding my taxes.... until tomorrow anyway)

top water schoolies
I got my season started too. After 2 days of yard work I hit the beach right before sun set. Perfect way to end the weekend.

Nice Marshman!! My surf reel is being tuned up and it's not ready yet! I'll be hitting the schoolies again tonight from 7ish to sunset. If you're around send me a PM.

With the lack of rain we've had this year so far, the rivers and streams are so low that many herring and shad are stuck in the estuaries and bays waiting for the spring rains to come.
This can make for a VERY interesting April as the schoolies are usually the first to arrive. Next will be the sub-adults, those that are just under to just over keeper size. I figure that as long as the herring and shad can't migrate upstream to their spawning grounds, the bass will feed quite well, making for an equally interesting summer!
