SBer goes big with a new PB

Have it on good authority that a contributing SB member got a new PB this morning... For all the hard work he puts in, it was only a matter of time. Maybe if we're lucky he'll chime in with a photo

48 inches and 36.4 pounds. Longest fish for me but the empty stomach cost me my first 40! Still topped my previous pb of 35#. Will try to post but a pic later but my laptop crashed.

Yes. Whole squid used as a lure. My patented "twitch" and pause allowed me to watch her grab it. That was the longest 7 seconds of my life waiting to set that hook!

Congrats !

Does your incessant whining make you feel better? How about you just shut the hell up and suck it up? It's a fishing forum , so please just stop.

Congratulations on the new PB!! Very interesting that you got her actively fishing a whole squid, something else I may have to try one of these days.

Probably fought like an SOB, those skinnier fish are athletic like you read about. That's what it's all about anyway, the fun of the fight, after that it's just a number.

Way to go, now go catch another one. Good to see they're moving into the north country...

Good battle as she took a couple good runs. Gave several wicked head shakes but I had her hooked in the roof of the mouth.

Awesome job! Lots of satisfaction with a PB. Sounds like you knew you were into a good fish during the fight. Such an exciting time, knowing you are tethered to this brute.

Congratulations! Very cool, interested in the technique.

Thanx everyone. Hoping to find another in the morning. Hopefully with a belly!
Technique? It was slack water and I was basicallly using the whole 7 inch squid like a sluggo; ripping it quickly until it got to within say 10 yards of me; then I let it sink down before twittching it up to me. First twitch up she whooooshed in and grabbed the squid. Ii opened the bail and counted 7 with line flying off the reel. I flicked the bail closed and set the hook hard. Two solid runs up-river then she stopped; shook her head repeatedly and I worked her back to me. Stayed deep until just in front of me but when she surfaced I knew it would be close for the Pb. Great experience. Need a 40!
