Humminbird vs Lowrance - Side scan imaging

My two girls are now old enough to get out in the boat lets hope they don't get sea sick....

I've been able to work the angel that we need to upgrade somethings, you know, for safety....

I'm looking to upgrade the GPS/sonar from my old Lowrance LMS 160MAP and was looking at the Hiumminbirds for the side scan sonar. I didn't do much research on comparisons because I thought they were the only mfg that had that option. I found out today that Lowrance now has it too and it's supposed to be much better.

I've always thought of Humminbird as a fresh water mfg and Lowrance as salt.

Being that Side scan imaging sonar is my most important criteria, what would you recommend?

Structurescan HD.

Only played with it in up to 100 feet of water so far but its pretty damn impressive.

I have a Humminbird 798ci HD which uses down imaging and side imaging. The level of detail is unbelievably good. I'm going to be selling my unit only because I want a larger screen. Otherwise I've been very happy with this unit for a couple years now.

Check out the Garmin and Simrad unit using the CHIRP technology, they also so side scan and they do it extremely well.
