I was thinking about fishing there Friday with MtnBrz1. It will be my (our) first time out there and I was looking to get some tips....

Hehe,

not on the spot but on parking and walking in there. Should we park on Larkin or Bluff ave, any shortcuts or just walk Lighthouse rd?

How long does it take to walk out there for a person in average shape?

Was thinking that I should try drifting eel's there.

Any warnings, spots to stay away from?

Don't bother if you don't have Korkers - you WILL break your ass.

Park QUIETLY behind the Watch Hill Inn and walk down to the light. You will get ticketed or towed for parking at the light and on most side streets.

I'll go behind the inn and walk in. (We may go fishing with Don M so it may change to a different spot)

Now that's to the point John!

Has anyone ever slipped w/ Korkers or are they that good? I have a pair but never really had the "opportunity" to "test em' out" on real slippery stuff.

They will slip on deep weed that the studs won't reach through, or if you step on a high spot where a stud doesn't dig in. Overall they are good BUT NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR COMMON SENSE.

Korkers are not a magic elixir on the rocks but are far and above anything else other than caution. Caution and Korkers will likely lead to a safe rock hopping. Cautions and no Korkers can lead to an ass breaking, no caution and no Korkers and you are almost guaranteed an ass breaking

- I'm trying to be slightly funny but serious at the same time...

I was thinking the same thing

but that's why I posted the three increasing degrees of breakyourassability - it can still happen... It can happen if youare wearing Korkers AND being cautious. A couple years ago I had a few spills out past WH and recovered over a couple weeks to follow up with more spills at block. That was a pretty sore summer...

You know, Nils and I were talkig about it tongiht and I think that when I came off of the ocean side of the bridge, with waves and less light, to the "calm" side of the bridge, with more light, I let my guard down and just miss-stepped.

Oh well... At least the rod didn't get damaged!

There is a municipal parking lot in town also – in front of the strip mall. It is a little longer walk but it is 100% legal. Be quiet around Watch Hill, they are not too fond of fishermen and they have a private security firm that reports everything to the cops – be out of there by 7:00 am in the summer.
This is one of those places where looking at the ground, walking briskly, and not speaking to anyone without a fishing pole in their hands are good policies.

Ignore the "Private Road" sign too.

I have an acquaintance who lives in Westerly - that person, who is normally the nicest person you could ever get to know, turns into Mr. Hyde when the topic of out-of-town fisherman is brought up. Multiply that feeling x2 with Watch Hill.

Has anybody actually stayed at the Inn At Watch Hill? Wondering how it looks - can't tell from the outside.

I used to date a woman whose family had a house in Watch Hill and I drank at the Watch Hill Inn quite often. I never stayed there but I was told that the rooms were nothing special.

I got Married there October 1st 2000 and had a very spiritual and fantastic Wedding Reception. The Chappel in back was pretty cool too. The rooms are not that glamorous or spacious, but that is not what the Inn is about. It is a quaint New England type place. Feels almost like a Bed and Breakfast joint. Only problem was they didn't serve BASS beer. It is my favorite and luckily the Limo was well stocked with BASS.
