Fluke/Flounder?

Not being a big bottom fisherman.....can someone explain to me how I can tell the difference between fluke and flounder?

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

fluke face left, flounder right. fluke also have serious teeth.

They are very similar, but have differences. One is that the fluke, clearly a game fish, has a large mouth with sharp teeth, capable of ingesting a whole squid, The mouth on a winter flounder is tiny with less pronounced teeth. The eye configuration is a little different, too. You may be able to google comparative depictions.

Don't think you are likely to get a fluke in Boston Harbor? But you catching a flounder may also be a fluke!

I am going to be doing some flounder fishing.....just want to have my regs in order and know which fish I am keeping and how big and how many! Just need to be sure of which I might have on my line is all. Its all about educating oneself!

some years there are lots of them. i've had days i've caught more fluke than flounder, right where we were fishing the other day

If you get a flounder with a tarpon like mouth that's a windowpane flounder, off limits. We get about 1 a day
