There use to be a group of Vietnamese people that went down there all the time and would take shorts and leave the place a mess. I hated them. Haven't seen them down there in a couple years though.

its disturbing seeing the random people in places with walmart specials (no offense to anyone using walmart specials) taking shorts and everything/anything else that bites
EP/DMF need to get nasty on those people... but i suspect they can't stop all of them... :\

Excuse me, guys, I am also Vietnamese here. Not all of them are bad. I have known a few of them do spearfishing for stripers which I am strongly against. Do you why they do that? I'm not trying to argue with you, but give you an explanation about their behaviors. You know, back in Vietnam, there were many Veitnamese fishermen who tend to fish and feed their families. The size or law don't apply to them in Vietnam. For example, my mother and I argued about why I didn't catch a fish and that I should have asked another angler to give me a 26 inches striper. And I explained to her and she was being stubborn. So like I said, we are different. Sometimes the law don't apply to some people here. Some Vietnamese fishermen follow the laws and some of them don't. It's not like all of them are like that, you know?
You don't need EP/DMF to deal with them. You guys can enforce the laws on them, right?

Actually - DEM should be involved and not any anlger vigilante. 95% of these guys taking short fish - regardless of origin - know exactly what the laws are and should be penalized for keping short fish. If you need to be a substenance fisherman to feed your family, find a fish that you can do so legally. Don't plead ignorance....

It's not any one nationality that is breaking the law. I've seen people of all diferrant race & nationallities taking illegal fish. Also ignorance of the law is no excuse. People from poorer countries that migrate to this country that have very few or no fishing laws think it is the same way here. Then again if you were working for meager or mininum wagers and had to feed your family you may think of keeping a few under size fish. But rules are rules and if you get caught then you pay the Piper.

Thankfully places like the canal and other "popular" fishing spots are hawked over by DMF/DEM.
And they aren't necessarily driving around in those pretty green/gray trucks either...

Notaro,
Please read my post in Addicts "Anglers Code of Conduct" thread. I am not disagreeing with your interpretation of things, I just think that ignorance only holds up for so long. Rules are rules and we all have to abide by them.
You don't represent the Vietnamese fisherman here and I don't hold you responsible for their actions. And, in your defense, I agree that people should definetly not use bigotry to back up their feelings.
I hope that management can do a better job of enforcing this stuff but I wonder if they can even come close to scratching the surface. I felt as though I had an impact the other night and it came down to my delivery of the info and not the reinforcement of the wrong that they could possibly inflict.
Good luck fishing !

maybe a vigilante posting of regulations would be inorder?
put a multi-lingual sign inplace that shows the regulations in very simple terms.
Or just take the state poster that they have at the LocalTackleShop.
It shouldn't be too hard for us to come up with one.
Are there universal symbols for two fish per angler per day?
How about universal symbols for length?
Maybe a smiling person with two legal size stripers and a vertical line and a frowning person in jail that has three or more undersized stripers.
maybe put a sign like at the carnival - your fish must be this big to keep it.
print em up at staples, laminate them and then staple them to the piers and in conspicuous places where they can be seen while not causing other people to get their dander up over their placement.
WDYT??

this was a problem I ran into when living on the north shore.... all along the merimack. If you called the DMF/DEM chances were you would not see them. The all too sad reallity is there are not enough of them to patrol all the waters. I can, to a degree understand the substanance fishing but as John says... that only goes so far.
Still the best thing is to drop a dime..... don't become a statistic by going it alone
