Does have a permit here? I have one and after reading the guidlines it is difficult to understand. My question is this.

I do not have a self contained vehicle. Self contained vehicles can stay out for a maximum of 72 hours before they have to come off the beach.

The regular permits allow you to be on the beach between 8:00am and 11:00 pm (unless actively fishing) and when you come off you need to stay off for at least 6 hours.

If I go out there and fish for three days and someone is constantly fishing is there a time limit? If I come of once a day but was actively fishing what are the rules? I'm thinking I should just risk that they won't mind. Does anyone know how strictly they enforce time on the beach?

Thanks

I think the max time you can stay out on an O/S (non self-contained) permit is 24 hours. 24 on, 6 off before you can go out again.

Try it, but ya gotta remember, you are not self-contained.
They catch you nodding off even with a rod in the water, you is gone, and your sticker too. I've been going out there for several years, in a camper, and without. It is against the by-laws to use the dunes as your bathroom, remember watching the movie? Also, why would you want to, it's a nice place. Fishing, or anything else, for 72 hours out there will get old in a hurry, you will not have non-stop action.
They do have time books, and will come looking for you after 12 or so hours, they will figure out who you are, and monitor your actions. They might talk to you, might not. They might send you a summons in the mail, this has happened to others, for several different violations, mostly time over-stay issues. I know one individual who was fined $350, and had his sticker removed, and no re-issue for a 12 month period. And he was out the $ for the sticker, sorry, no refund.
So, it is up to you, if it is worth the risk, go for it. But, please for my sake, and others who truly love this resource, bring a chemical toilet, and use it, carry-in, carry-out. If I were you, I'd find a rental, and come and go as the tides were productive. Or, look into renting one of the beach camps out there... some of them rent, I hear they go for $150 a night...not a bad deal, seeing as Chatham bars gets twice as much, and there view, is you!

you want to know how stiff they are. one night I was FISHING out there, I just left one hole to hit another, mind you I had waders on, 3 rods in the rod racks, eels swinging in the breeze off those rods cureling up my line and I pass the white truck[cop] in the middle road.[at night] well we had words, I was not in the water fishing, they said I was joy rideing, bs. around an round we went. I won but I was lucky. they watched me the rest of the night, must have gone by me 20 times, never once did they see me giveing them the finger

BOAT fish do count.

Talking Happens all the time...

I hear ya CS.... one night 2 summers ago, my son and I fishin' eels, I'm at the truck, hookin' on a new one. white truck pulls up, "You have to be activley fishing, it's after 11!", he yells. Shines his alley light on my son, at the waters edge, kids got one on, rods got a good bend in it, we watch him time the wave and skid it up onto the sand. "Ya, can't get much more active than that, can ya sir?"
He doused the light, took off, not a word.... but the bugger lurked a couple hundred yards south of us till we called it a night. Not all of 'em are like that, but ya never know who's got the shift.
