Newport by water
Heading down this weekend with my Love.
Any particular sights of interest to be seen (from the water) or places to stop into on the cheap ?$?
Friendly overnight anchorages, mooring areas or calm back bays to spend the night?
Looking to just mosey on through at a leisurely pace.

The cliff walk/mansions/ocean drive are pretty cool to check out by boat, but its pretty bony in there. Might be tough without local knowledge.
The Jamestown side (right across from npt harbor) will make for a great tour and its deep water right up to the cliffs. I always like seeing beavertail from the water - and there are schoolies all over the place in there if she lets you fish a bit. You can tie up for free and go grab ice cream at the town dock- that's a fun stop.
Casey's is probably your cheapest overnight dock in Newport- its right off Thames, so you can walk right off the boat and into all the shops/bars/restaurants.

You can anchor north east of Ida Lewis yacht club and take the old port launch in.. Or you can rent a mooring up inside Brenton cove. There's lots of options this time of year.
I recommend breakfast at Belle's @newport ship yard.

Cheap eats- stay away from any restaurants on the wharfs or Thames st. I'd hit Pour Judgement bar on Broadway. It's a 10 minute walk from long wharf.. $10 for a burger and a pint. Can't beat that.

Give old port a call when you get in the harbor for a mooring. $40/ night I think. Ch. 68. Kind of cool experience taking the launch in and out. They run till midnight after Memorial Day. Cheap good eats head up to broadway.

Does your incessant whining make you feel better? How about you just shut the hell up and suck it up? It's a fishing forum , so please just stop.

Newport is such a beautiful place.
I've got family there.
As a kid we had big family parties and clam bakes every summer.
