DEM: 'Hydrogen combustion' probable cause of beach explosion
Quote:
PROVIDENCE - The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management announced on Friday a probable cause of the recent explosion at Salty Brine Beach in Narragansett.
Officials noted that the culprit was “the combustion of a build-up of hydrogen gas in the beach sand, due to the corrosion of an abandoned copper cable that was previously used by the United States Coast Guard."

The explosion could be caused by a fuel spill that washed upon the jetty rocks from the boat that caught fire in Galilee.

did some a hole place an airbag under the sand then set it off ?
strange

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.
1984 was a warning, not a guidebook!
It's time more people spoke up with the truth. Every time we let a leftist lie go uncorrected, the commies get stronger.

IF* that really was a bomb, I wonder if it is related to the fire along the docks that destroyed a few fishing boats the other night.

Exploding dead animals do not have the power to launch old ladies through the air. I have experience "exploding" dead bloated cows as a kid, I tricked my little brother to get near a hugely bloated dead cow. Once he was close enough I "speared" it with a sharp stick, and it sort of exploded. it was mostly a HUGE amount of stinky air and juicy stuff that splattered all over my brother. It was far from enough power to do any physical damage to anyone.
I think it is more likely the airbag scenario or a hoax. Or perhaps ole Phil Harris was right about the crab fart bubbles, except in this case it was lobster fart bubbles that collected under the sand, just waiting for some elderly lady to attack.

Paul, it's all psychological. You yell decomposing methane gas deposit , everybody says, "Huh? What?" You yell "terrorists", we've got a panic on our hands on the Fourth of July.

John, I'm pissing my pants at my desk I'm laughing so hard. Was the mayor wearing a sports coat that had 30 pastel-colored stripes?
God knows everytime I hear the word barracuda, my exact response is "Huh? What?" Especially if I was on an island somewhere in New York, I think a barracude elicits more of a response than "Huh? What?"
I won't laugh this hard again for weeks.

The explosion could have been caused by a buildup of methane gases from a septic system that is inadequately vented.

Hahaha - that thought crossed the mind too. Top 5% funny video on what could possibly go wrong.
As for Salty Brine - I cannot imagine many scenarios that would not leave a trace of some type.

Ok... Here's the best theory i can come up with:
2 seasons ago they shipped in newly demolished boulders to rebuild the short wall jetty. To creates the boulders, they drill a series of holes into massive rock and drop explosives into them.
My best guess is a left over, undetonated explosive sitting in a drill hole of one of the boulders.

Zero traces of explosive material was found by bomb sniffing dogs and lab testing.
I still think that lady stuffed 10 psi of methane into the sand from farting and lit a match..... Boooooom

Natural gases built up under the sand? Like the small gas bubbles that can build in aquarium sand only on a larger scale? I think I saw something about a lake somewhere that had this mysterious underwater "explosions"....I will have to see if I can find it....
Edit: found what I had read about but this is different. This was more gases in the water. Not necessarily the sand or lake bottom like I was thinking.... http://www.usgs.gov/blogs/features/u...n-west-africa/

She probably jumped (body reflex) from nearby boat horn that was mistaken for an explosion.

Nebestradomous has a prediction to make!
Firstly... No one will ever know what actually happened.
Secondly.... The discovery channel or the history channel will definitely showcase this event and come up with reasons why this is one of the greatest scientific mysteries of all times.
