Suggested excusrions for Eastham camping in June?
OK, looks like we will be camping at Atlantic Oaks campground from June 18 - June 28 this year. Loved it last year, except for the gypsy moth caterpillars - yuck. Clenaing the roof of the camper was some chore after that trip.
Anyway, I am a real novice to the Cape, and would like to make it as much fun as possible. My boys will be ages 9, 6, and 5.
Looking for day excursions. we will fish with Rich Wood for a day in Provincetown, we will do a lobster boat tour out of P-town one day.
There are seal tours out of Chatham. I see a Chatham boat that will bring you to a remote beach called "north beach" for a couple of hours. Anyone know if that's worth it? Whale-watching might be a little slow for my little guys.
What else?
I also saw a Chatham boat has great white tours, I wonder how often they see them?
Shouldn't be too crowded yet, so I am guessing we can travel in any direction, without too much trouble?
Appreciate the suggestions.
And if anyone is looking for something cool for a kid to do out there, we have done the lobster boat tour twice with Chris Townsend out of P-town. Last year, the captain had my oldest doing everything - helping haul the pots, measure the lobsters, band the keepers, release the shorts, bait the pot, and he let my son drive the boat the whole way back in. My son felt like a real old salt, the captain had an absolutely perfect temperment to be around little kids.
Can't wait to get back out there, a magical place.

Are stripers my best bet for mid-late June in P-town? Any sea bass around?

You could spend a good portion of your day in Wellfleet checking things out down at the docks for a while, right across the street you can get take-out foodies, head up Chequessett Neck Road to the picnic area, when you're done, starting from the parking lot there's a nice walk you can take around Great Island (Google Great Island Walk and you'll get some hits with a map). You can duck in for a dip here and there or most anywhere along the bay side. There's always a ton of cool stuff in the high tide strand (beach whistles excluded) and cool rocks along the way (that might make it a little hard on bare feet here and there, but not so bad). There were seals at the water's edge sunning a couple years ago when we went. Take the binoc's you might catch a glimpse of the bricks that were one part of the Billingsgate Village (or maybe they don't exist anymore, either, but your kids are at an age where it might be kinda adventuresome).
When my brothers and I were that age, "excursion" meant taking us somewhere to wind us down so they could relax a little.

There's the Natural History Museum in Brewster on rte6A.A day trip to Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute[Falmouth/Woods Hole].Audubon Wildlife Sancturary[I know Iknow]in Wellfleet is way more than just the plover issue. The great white/seal tours are really the same deal.Just the time of the year makes a difference of the odds to see sharks. The state trout hatchery in Sandwich on rte 6A.Climb the Ptwn Monument.Take them to see the new movie "Finest Hours"[saw it this Monday] and take them to Rock Harbor in Orleans. The lifeboat 36500 restored is moored at the end of the dock past the charter boats.Bernie Webber was my ex's uncle.
