First Weakfish
Don't normally get them up in my waters, but today I was fishing down in GB's neck of the woods and had a ball. Not only did I get a good case of striper thumb on mostly keeper size bass, but nailed my first weakfish (left in picture). All came on a smoke 8" grub, slowly swum in 12-18 feet of water with bolders or structure, on a 1 oz Owner jig head. Sweet day and I needed it bad. Greg nailed some beauties and of course he had to do it several times in front of me , but it was nice to see him and the big fishies.

I'll be grilling tomorrow night for sure, half then and half frozen for a labor day party I'm going to. Be almost a month since I had me a steak on the grille and I've never had a weakfish, so I'm pumped....got lemon.

i wasn't too impressed with the tatse of weakfish. i have heard such good things about it, but i won't kill another one unless it is for some one else. the veins in the flesh kinda freaked me out, too.
nice job, though!

Yeah Mike he kicked my butt on large, dragging them 9'er rigs, but next to anchoring up and chunking; trolling would be my last resort. I'll catch all the 32-36" fish I can and be happy doing it, even if 42-52" fish are coming nearbye trolling, not set up to do it and I'd rather cast and feel the hits and be on the edge with lighter gear.

Bob nice to fish with you again next time keep your phone on It would have been great to be able to call you over to the fish rather than pick up and go pull you over to them And I really did not catch all those BIG fish in front of you just to prove a point ( 14 cows up to 48 3/4" ) I did stop fishing just to go get you did I not . Besides Goose said I needed to start taking pictures so I figured you could take some. But I left with out any pictures agian. Only pic. I got was of you with this nice weakfish.

Well Greg, each time I turned my phone on later, no signal so even had I had it on I'd likely not have heard you. I will have the vhf on 69 as I did that day. That's a great picture you took and it was better than the eating. I cooked it just like the striper and I prefer the striper, as did most of the family and they are all fish heads. Now if only white perch or crappie grew to striper size, then we'd be talking some good eating. If I weren't so whipped from roofing all day, I trailer down, but then it looks SE so probably rough down there.
