How big is your boat?
Whoops.... Someone screwed up. UPS claiming they missed window to make reservations to get delivery trucks to Nantucket....
After talking with a few people that could have been part of a new freight business.... I am calling Bullchit on this story

Ironically, disruptions in normal deliveries this summer might open some standby ferry time. This is going to be a very strange year.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to find a solution. Just extend the work day to add 1 more boat late night or super early in the morning for shipments. Problem solved

You would think the entities that have to deliver daily would have long term contracts w/the ferry comp.

So here is how our discussion went;
If we were able to source a vessel able to handle UPS 18 wheelers, containers, or even delivery trucks, you need a place to load and disembark.... The Ferry Co. isn't going to offer that up. Nor the cranes to unload.
So then we went to air... This would allow UPS to deliver from Worcester maybe.. This would keep the delivery from having to be in traffic, getting over the bridge and onto the ferry. That is the savings to offset the cost of a designated plane capable of supplying the delivery needs to both islands. Sure, there will be investment costs (plane) and landing fees, etc. But if the major delivery services were to join together and create a separate service to supply all their island delivery needs... and they all leave necessary delivery vehicles on island... Well that would get the Ferry Co. attention, don't you think? It will be worked out. And it might well be just a marketing ploy by the islands and/or Ferry Co. to generate more traffic, more reservations, etc.

I’m not sure how much the ferry co cares.
I’m over here on Nantucket now and not too happy with what I had to settle with for dates and times of travel. There are only three boat trips per day each way. In the summer they can accommodate my truck and trailer with one of the freight boats, but I guess not in winter. I’m not sure how many freight boat trips they run now anyway. I will be trying to get off on stand by today at 12, if not it will be 5:30.
UPS sucks but maybe they do the best they can considering the inept people that are in charge. There seems to be plenty of incompetence to go around these days.
