Mike Roy and Reel Cast Charters

I did a charter in the CT river this weekend with Captain Mike Roy’s Reel Cast charters.

We launched out of old saybrook, went looking for bunker, after a short steam we found a huge school ( thanks to their insane knowledge of using side scan sonar) , one throw of the cast net and we had 50.

For the next 4 hours we live lined bunker with no weight on light tackle, i’m sure we didn’t go ten minutes without a knockdown the whole trip, and there were times when you were on, the second your bunker hit the water.

We probably boated 25 fish between the two of us, between 12 and 25 pounds. No monsters. god knows how many we (mostly me) lost on the way back in. It was non stop action.

What was impressive was that (1) never did i see any signs of busting fish. He used the electronics to find the fish then positioned us perfectly with the spot lock. And (2) despite seeing 5-10 other boats within 100 yards of us all day, i think i saw one other striper caught on another boat. we completely outfished everybody thanks to their skill.

These are young guides, bursting with energy, unbelievably tuned into their electronics. Very friendly, easy to spend the day with, fantastic with children.

and the boat is a 27 foot conch, a year old, everything top of the line. It’s awesome.

Highly recommend.

I don't know how the weakfish fishery is in that area but where I am it has been pretty good last few weeks. Nothing over 28" but fun to catch a different fish.

We are launching out of Saybrook so I have no idea where to hunt Weaks from there, but that would be very cool. Maybe I should come down your way soon.

If I still had my little boat I'd let you know. It was perfect for this fishery.
