Boat stands

Anyone know how much it will cost me to rent boat stands for the winter? And has anyone taken a 24' boat off the trailer in the yard and put on stands? Risky and scarey both come to mind probably because I have never seen it done.

Theres a place on the South Shore that I stoer boats that will pull it off a trailer, block it and rent you stands for $130. Storage is around $20 per foot.

I dont want to buy them just rent them for the winter so I can strip the bottom paint, and fool with the trailer, nothing is written in stone I put it on the dock but am not willing to negotiate my price if it sells it sells if not no biggie.

Don't rent the stands. Buy them. You'll have them for your next boat and they shoud last years. Take a trip down to Brownell in Mattapoisett with a pickup and bring them home. Last time I bought some they were $40 or so apiece. I'm sure more now but as renting for $130, not a smart deal. As far as blocking I use 2x6's made to an I beam box. Will hold anything and they are light.

They went up to $90 this year... I was going to buy 16 to rent to my customers but the cost increase was too much.

Pulling a boat off the trailer is not that hard. Hang off and put the stands under it with some blocks on the keel. You should lift it about 6-10" up and tie it to a tree or another car. Pull the trailer about half way out slowly. Jack and block the frount as far up as possible and pull the trailer oud to the 2/3 position. Put the stands and bocks in the frount as far as possible. Always keep blocks under the keel. Go slow and use a helper.

Getting it on is much quicker. It makes working on it much easer.
