Hello,

A friend of mine is looking into purchasing a 23 to 25 ft center console. I believe he has looked at Edgewater, Triton, and Grady's. You guys have any other suggestions on some boats?

I'll second the Scout 260 comment, I think there will be one on display at the Boston Boat Show. The Edgewater and Grady should be must see also.

Based on the boats referenced and to support other suggestions - I think the 24 HydrSport Vector is going to give you the best qualty/ price ratio.

I bought a 2004 Parker 23 center console in August w/a 200hp 4 stroke Yamaha. It is by far the best boat I have owned. I have had a larger boat and many smaller boats and fished on dozens
of others.
Don't waste your money on Grady. I had a Hydrosport before this boat and they are a totally different breed.

Parker is no frills and made for snotty water. Make sure to get trim tabs, they make my 23 a very dry boat even in the snot. The console is twice the size of any 23ft, the windshield is over 6 ft of the deck.

For the most part...you get what you pay for.

If you are fishing outside of the bay you need a real solid boat. Most of these lower cost boats have little freeboard and lots of fancy trim that sells at boatshows. Most can't take any real seas and have little weight and not enough deadrise. You will get the snot kicked out of you if you try to actually run half these boats in open water with winds over 15. not to mention 30.

Tell your friend to push the lenght to 26 and get the regulator...will mop up just about anything in its class. One ride on a rough day will without question convince you. If if is out of his range back down to a 24 but there is a big difference in this 2'.
Contenders are nice too...just that the lines are....well....kind of flat and just not as pleasing to the eye, but they can take a beating.

No matter what you get, compare reputation, deadrise, freeboard,hull weight, and fuel capacity, then cost. If cost is at the front of your list you will end up with a shiny new light weight boat that while it may look pretty in your driveway but you wouldn't want to take it offshore.

Remember this: Good boats don't need good salesman, they sell themselves. If you have some sales guy (making a fat comish)twisting your arm, IMO you should move on. Good boats don't need arm twisting, the sales guy KNOWS a good boat will sell.

PS...go for a ride on a day when it is blowing before you spend a penny. If they will not do that, walk...no, run away fast.

If money is no object go YELLOWFIN and know that you have one of the finest CC's available period. The 23 gets speeds in the 60's with twins and looks tougher and built better than anything out there, Period.Talk to Rob at Kingman marine. You can't overlook CONTENDER either, a very strong well built rought water machine, extremely sexy boats. In my opinion the Regulator is overpriced but does ride well and is finished well. With regulator your paying for a name and the boat has wood decking, seems like alot of money for a boat that has rotting capability.

Yellowfin is a beautiful boat I must have missed the money is no object part of the post. If that were the case why buy such a small boat go for the gusto and buy a Hatteras

Yellowfins a faster and more economical vessel. Coming back from Atlantis we did 8 doughnuts around a friend in his 250 thousand dollar CC. We cruised home at no joke 51 knots and still had 80 gallons in the tank after a two day Edge trip. This was on the 31 Yellowfin which is in stock at Kingman. Twin 225 optis, t-top, full electronics.
