Wetsuit ideas

After one year of wetsuiting I can't say enough about it, not just because its the type of waters I fish but it gives a new meaning to the word versital and more importantly you are much safer*not skishing.

I used a 3mm, the 3 doesn't give you alot of buoyancy so I used a 2mm vest under my suit, although I got the noticed a difference I also felt the difference in body temp. I know Body Glove makes a wetsuit that is 5mm in the chest 2 in the arms and I think 3 mm in the legs. which is good but doesn't solve the buoyancy issue. What I think would be a good idea is to wear an additional vest on top of my 3mm that adds buoyancy but not body heat. A PFD is to bulky IMO. I'ld like to see something low profile that won't get in the way from casting or reaching your belt. Any ideas??

I got a 7mm 2 piece last year and don't regret it.
I don't walk much in it, however.

Stay away from the newer suits if you want bouyancy, they are all tending towards the thinner "new neoprene" I have one that low end (169 or so) it is 3m on the torso and legs, 2m on the arms and shoulders/chest area... I throw a 2/1mm under that in colder water, which gives some bouyancy, but then again I dont swim long distances in mine....

the 3/2 is perfect above 50, so thats the end of may on...
In the summer I rock hop in shorts and a 1m wetsuit top... much better than waders.. I've used the same in July and Aug when the water is toasty to wade..

I love my Henderson Hyperstretch Titanium(7mm).This suit will last me for quite a while, with good care.PLENTY buoyant, and as the name says its HYPERSTRETCH.Very easy to move around. I dont see why you would need a PDF with a 7mm suit, but then I have a little extra padding and that floats pretty good.
In the early season(sept) I also use a 3mm,which is not nearly as buoyant, but have not had any problems, and I HAVE been swept out and had to swim back,it was never a problem where i felt at risk.
If you are looking for a summer wetsuit however, a 7mm is WAY too hot.

I have a SOSpenders fanny pack PFD we used to have to where in some lakes to bass fish.they make a pretty low profile vest type also. I've never worn one in the salt.johnny i guess the reasoning for it wit a wet suit is so they can find my body easier when I hit my head.I've worn my aquaskins lightweight top over a 3/2 when it was a little cool an kept nice an toasty.plus the little pocket in the front will hold some eels.I seem to be OK as long as i stay in the water wit the wetsuit but when its breezy an u get up on a rock the wind makes me chilly so the top cuts it an keeps me warm.When ur in it all night an ur campin an u get that chill its tough to get warm.i keep sayin I'm gonns get the henderson 5 mil but I hav'nt yet.Soon I'll be to run down for that crap anyways.but the suit is the way to go defintely safer than waders.

Goose, my suit is 5mm. I originally picked it up for snorkeling, but made the progression pretty quick to fishing in it. As far as buoyancy, I think I am up to a 25 # weight belt in order to neutralize my body for diving. Before the belt, I was popping up like a cork every time I dove down. The suit is 5mm all around. Maybe step up to a solid 5mm?

A 5 mm is to warm to be fishing in during the day from may-sept. But at night, especially during may and september a 5mm would be just fine. I got 6/4 if anyone is looking for a suit, would be nice in the spring in fall.

I think a 5mm is fine in the day in the summer. i was snorkeling in mine in july and august during the day. if i wasn't constantly moving, i was cold.
