The Sox offered him a contract that would make him one of the highest paid GM's in baseball. Theo was just to freakin greedy. What the hell does he want? Screw him if he wants to be a greedy SOB.

I don't believe it was the money rather the amount of control he would have.

Good for Theo. He might probably come back someday, when he's old and in his forties
But I am disapointed he did not sign....

Where does he think he's gonna get a job? Aren't all the GM spots locked up now? Maybe he'll go to AZ and be Josh Byrne's Asst GM!

I heard he was all set to agree to a contract sat. night but then Sunday morning he saw Shank Shaunnessy's column in the globe. It appears Larry Luchino pulled one too many fast ones. It reminds me of Belichick resigning from the jets to get out from under Parcells.

I agree with BF. It came down to control. Theo wanted final say without Lucchino meddling. The Globe article was just icing on the cake. Seems like some things never change on Yawkey Way..

There's open GM positions in L.A. , Philly, and Tampa Bay. He'll land on his feet.
Stupid move by Sox management letting him get a way. It was nothing to do w/ the money...he just wanted to do his job the way every other GM does it (with the exception of Cashman )
3 Post-season Appearances, including one World Series in 3 years....I guess that just isn't good enough

Yeah.. I read that in the paper this morning. I heard on WEEI that Theo might just take some time off, but I suspect that LA would be a likely fit. I think we can throw Tampa right out of the equation. Pinella resigned as manager due to ownerships reneging on a promise of a bigger payroll. Philly has some good young talent and was in wild card contention to the end.
For me, it's all about which 9 guys put on the uniform and play the game every day. Last Xmas, the missus got me an authentic World Series edition home jersey. It has no number on the back. At first I was dissapointed; I was kinda hoping for #34. But now, I'm glad it has no number. For me, it's all about the name on the FRONT. With free angency, ceratainly players come and go. We see different GMs from time to time, and even ownership can change. It's unlikely that the name on the front of the jersey will ever change.

Luchino should stick to his own job.insted of micro managing the baseball people.
One thing for sure is the next GM will be a puppet for Luchino.

Yup I take back my earlier comment about Theo and it being all about money. Now that the facts are starting to filter out to the puplic it was def a control issue. Theo didnt want Luccino looking over his shoulder all the time.

I think the Sox blew it mainly by how, or the manner in which, they offered the money, yeah it was 1.5 eventually, but it started wayyy lower, then got over a mil, then finally hit 1.5. All this after finally winning the series and also while Theo knew they offered 2.5 to Billy in 2002 (even though he ended up joining Oakland), and then Theo got the job for 335-350,000. I agree about the timing of sundays Shanghnessy article wasnt good, and it came totally from Luccino's viewpoint.

Not a very smart move on the sox's part. We will have to wait and see how it all plays out but stupid to let him walk in my opinion.

Not very smart indeed! Considering the Sox let his assistant walk to the GM job in Arizona last week.
Theo's assistant may have taken over or at least helped in the transition.

Looks like he just wanted a change. To do what was best for him. Can't fault him or anyone else for that. Does it suck? You bet he will be missed. Could it have been avoided, maybe, but it is done and time to move on. P.

His hands of fapproach screwed the team ! I am curious to see what happens to the farm system. I hope they dont loose the young players that we heard about and saw this past year.
