How Is Your Season So Far?

Not the best, but definitely my favorite so far...

It really pays off to hunt for new spots even if they aren't as good as some of your regulars. Just provides way more options when your regs aren't producing like you thought they would be.

Also, I'm going to make sure I never pass judgment on a spot again until I actually get out and cover it all. Twice this season I've done this and they soon became two of my new favorites.

I've been out on the skiff a 1/2 dozen or so times and got one keeper on the fri before the Memorial Day weekend. So that was good for me anyways. I've landed about a dozen schoolies from the skiff. Nothing from shore for me so far but I haven't put much effort on that front. I haven't even had a whiff on the 3 times i spent a spot where I've caught some good fish from shore in Marshfield. Nothing from shore in Duxbury either. Getting my son into fishing this year has been the highpoint so overall I consider a good season so far. I want to try eels at night here locally. Anyone near me that has experience with this i would love to head out with you. Eels on me!

Ditto. No one said that you HAD to stay in the surf. Get a few guys together and get a boat. They fishing has been nothing short of spectactular.
I've had mornings with so many 20+pound fish I got tired of putting fish back, just went home. I'm not bragging either. It has been literally "stupid" fishing. Live line and you have a 20 to 30# bass. It has gotten a little more challenging as the water has warmed up and the Bass are further South and deeper so you need to 3 way or rubber core sinker to get to them but it's still "stupid" fishing.
I will never go back to the surf.

That's awesome Paul! Can't say the same for me--spots I've been fishing have not produced like they did last year!
Don't get me wrong--I've gotten a lot of real nice fish-- but certainly have not done as well as you...I like hearing that guys like you are catching though, because it motivates me to put my time in and get better!

Just like the last two seasons-- good in april and may, poor in june for big fish and not many schoolies either. Sometrhing is wrong.

this year is the worst for me i have been out almost every day and i cant even buy a bite all my spots that i go to have given me keepers in the past but this year nada i think something is not right on the south shore.

Bad, bad, bad...put in more time this year than the last 10 years past.
After what happened last week, though, any time out is a blessing.
This fact itself will probably lead to more fish.

As I said in a earlier post not good close to and off the shore for me I think the big bass are still out with the pogies, but I think they will start moving closer to the shore this week. I will be hitting it hard this weekend and keep you posted.

haven't really hit is HARD, yet, this season,,,,,,,,,,,,,

only twice to my honey cove (3 weeks ago & last Sun am) and there was plenty
of fire in tha water on Sun, but everything else seemed "lifeless";

no bait, no bumps on eeeeeeeels ~~so naturally i moved further up The Other Cape
to a 20" dink on a red/white 2 3/4oz Rockcaster. nice plug, teeny tiny feesh

looking at my BassLawgs from last year reveals that my NShore spots didn't
"get right" until July's New; sooooooooo, perhaps things WILL improve,
still yet, this one is starting out with a certain FUNK to it, that
i haven't quite put me finger on.............only time will tell

Slowest year in a while. Have caught about 11-12 keepers to 34" but the numbers all fish are way off.

Its been steady for me, but more slow outings and skunks recently. Had five fish last night, but all were on the small side under 30". Three nights ago had one hit and one fish about 25#. The small fish everyone seems to be looking for are out in full force where I've been fishing. This doesn't mean they are abundant, but they're quite thick in my locale. Most of them can't take an eel down they're so small.

Summer fishing is here folks. Get used to a bit slower action for a while in most cases if you're shore fishng. Be prepared for the occasional blitz though...

last year there was a lot of griping on the fishing through June, then the first week of July came around and we had a new front page focused purely on July's big fish.

It has been slow for me but I have not been putting in the time. I have been traveling too much and now I am in San Francisco every week until Labor Day. I hope that Sept and Oct are good.

im having the best season i have ever had.... last year i got bit by the striper bug didnt get a keeper untill november but caught tons of schoolies. this year after learning to fish the pogies, cast with eels and wood plugs ive been catching pretty consistantly. biggest is only 15 lbs but lots of fish over keeper size. hopefully my luck holds out through the rest of the season good luck everyone

Went out with Christian and man, my arms were tired at the end of the day. The guy can really work the rocks! An amazing day - we released a 30 pounder since we were at the limit. Hail the tube and worm...

It has been a weird season for me so far. For one, I have not fished very often. I am lucky to do 2 outings a week. Damn gas prices are slowing me down for sure. The times I have been out, have been somewhat productive. Since the 3rd week of April, only 2 skunkings. Several fish right at 25 pounds and not an ounce more, and a lot in the 15 - 20 pound range. Nothing to brag about, but can't really complain either. I have been hitting a new spot discovered by one of my crew this past winter. It doesn't look like much at first glance, but has put out 5 - 8 fish per outing per angler every time we have gone. It is a sweet little spot where the wetsuit really comes in handy. It has been most productive on the rising tide, and completely shuts off on the drop. Need to scout away from it a bit more to see where the fish are moving off to.
