Yea, they are like a sponge.....that is, of course, only if you allow water to enter thru the fiberglass/foam/fiberglass hull. By patching any cracks in the hull, you can prevent water from coming in.
They give a rough ride, but can handle ALOT of water, bigger water than another boat of comparable size can handle.
With the 70HP on this baby, and on a calm-average day in the bay, theyll be no problems.....
I was told the best fishing/cruising boat of this size range you can buy would be a Boston Whaler, Grady White (starts @ 18') and Maritime Skiff. Found an excellent deal on this BW, $5800 and talked em down to $5200.
she is soon to be named Silver Bullet

Mike, when are you getting an engine for Striper Sniper (that is going to be the name, right?)?

SNS - great boat for the upper bay, make sure you know where all the partially submerged ledges are - I see many of them get whacked...

Is that a 15?

Want to see a pretty whaler - take a look at the one in the classifieds..

Interesting - you're begging us to question why you're not in school and for us to tell you not to screw up like half of us did!

Couldn't resist....

John, it's a 17' Montauk - the outside looks nice but the inside has tons of stress cracks...
I was gonna sand it and repaint, but what the hell, it's a fishin boat tahts bound to get a little dirty, not a cruising boat....well save the Rinker for that.
Gotta wait till mid march to uncover it and begin working on it.

SNS - cool - very good boat for the bay...

What shape is the deck in? Solid enough that you can get by with repairing cracks then adding topping off with some non-skid? Not needing to look factory original?
