Hingham, MA and stripers on a fly?

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum and looking for some info. My girlfriend is from Hingham and I'm thinking about getting into the local fishing next summer...couple of questions:

1) Is there good striper fishing/flyfishing in Hingham or close by?
2) If close by, where else? I'm not familiar with the waters...
3) Bluefish? Bonito? Albacore?
4) What is a good boat for the local waters? Will a 22' center console get the job done?

Hingham has alot of great spots to fish! Just find the water and let one fly....(no pun intended)! Why wait until next summer? No time like the present as fishing is just getting hot!! You won't find bones or albies in Hingham, but you will find stripers and blues!

I'm from Hingham. Blues and Stripers are what to expect. I have a 19.5' CC, and a 22' is plenty for the area and bay for most days.

Get out and fish now. The fall run should be about full swing up there. Check out September's OTW for an article about eeling around Hull. If you head outside the gut and around Long Island to the airport there should be fish breaking on top. Go deeper for bigger fish out around Boston Light and the various rock piles. Most likely be schools of pogies althought last time I was out there in July there was nothing smashing them. Also there's likely to be herring in the area. Bigger baits should get some bigger fish. Blues and bass only but if you can afford to get out a few miles off Minots Light and close to the bank you may have a chance at some school BFTs.

Inside the gut, I loved fishing with my whaler skiff. Weymouth, Hinghan and Hull are very accessible by small boat. Hingham in particular was easier to fish in a skiff, I spent a great deal of time in that harbor at night.

Not to mention the ease of handling a small boat and the lower operating costs.

Grew up my whole life in Hingham, lots of good fishing around locally. But you have to be at the waters edge to catch
