Being Outrageous Doesn't Pay Off?

Glenn Beck is being shown that saying whatever he wants to rile the drones and feed the ignorant doesn't always pay off.

Maybe he listens to a lot of Rush and doesn't realize that some things work on radio that won't be accepted on TV.

http://mediamatters.org/blog/200908060011

Quote:
Three companies who run ads during Glenn Beck -- NexisLexis-owned Lawyers.com, Proctor & Gamble and Progressive Insurance -- today distanced themselves from Beck. LexisNexis has pulled its advertising from Beck and says it has no plans to advertise on the program in the future. Both Proctor & Gamble and Progressive Insurance called the Beck advertising placements an error that they would correct.

The decision by the three companies comes as over 45,000 ColorofChange.org members call on advertisers to pull their ads from Glenn Beck after the controversial news host called President Obama a "racist" who "has a deep-seated hatred for white people" on "Fox & Friends" last week.

"Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention," said John Michaels, Senior Communications Manager at LexisNexis in an email to ColorOfChange.org. "We have suspended further advertising during Mr. Beck's program."

hey JD, when Obama "THE PRESIDENT" urges his supporters to "get in the faces of people and yell at them" or urges his suporters and the union thugs, Acorn to go after other concerned Americans at these "town hall" meetings that the dems are so afraid of...is that also "riling the drones and feeding the ignorant"?...seems those companies are more afraid of what the Obama government will do to them than what Glenn Beck can do for them...the thugs, rats, liars are running our government and you appear to have a problem with this being pointed out by anyone...

btw...the left/dems loved/supported/funded Ciny Sheehan when she was "outrageous"..that was until she started sleeping in front of Pelosi's house and going after dem memebrs of congress, then they had her arrested...but when she was in Bush's ditch, she was a hero...the left has made a living w/ rent a mobs, outrageous idiots like Franken, Matthews, most of Hollywood, Michael Moore...

Be careful what you say, because if the left doesn't like it, or it is disparaging to the Prez, then you could be ratted out by our new breed of "civilian spies".

Imagine if a republican president had urged his public to be ever-vigilant against those that would speak ill against them?

Isn't it funny that the dems don't have a problem with curtailing freedom of speech, as long as it isn't what they're spewing?

We are heading down a dangerous path, and when we are being led by inept leaders, or self-serving hacks, we will either be like lemmings heading to the sea, or ...(oh, wait, they haven't left us any other option because we can't say anything bad about the president, his actions or even his policies without being persecured).

I may have to invest in some "protection" for when the crap hits the fan.

the beauty in all of this is that Obama and the dem leadership and their minions are exposing themselves for the elitist, divsive, deceptive, radical hypocrits that they are, they don't get it but Americans do, just look at the polls, they will have their clingers who will continue to defend them but this isn't going to fly with most Americans, the outrageous quotes that are being complied from the mouths of these rats should be played over and over again till 2010, or at least until they forcibly shut down all opposition...

You guys are funny.

This about business.

Beck is behaving like an idiot in an attempt to get time from an audience who's been velocitized.

The sponsors don't want to be associated with something that may offend valued consumers.

And that's about it.

Do you have any idea what you're talking about? I tend to think not.

The "concerned Americans" you speak of have essentially been swooping into the town hall meetings with the sole intention of disrupting the meetings.

These "concerned Americans" you speak of are nothing but a piss-poor representation of those opposed to the Health Care proposals. Which is a shame because now no one talking against the bill will be taken seriously. This just gives more ammo for the Dems to criticize the Republicans to invalidate many valid points.

On the complete other hand, your post has absolutely nothing to do with the topic I posted about. It's one thing to criticize the President with valid points in a reasonable way - but Glenn Beck incapable of presenting his opinion reasonably or with validity.

I think Glen Beck is entertaining, funny, and witty. although like Rush I can't take to large a dose. Alot of what both of them speak of can't be debated. It's "fact". A word that the left likes to leave out of their debates. Lies would be a good sustitute for the left.

[QUOTE=JohnnyD;704409]Do you have any idea what you're talking about? I tend to think not.[ENDQUOTE]

I think Scott knows full well what he's talking about. You're the one who doesn't.

[QUOTE=JohnnyD] The "concerned Americans" you speak of have essentially been swooping into the town hall meetings with the sole intention of disrupting the meetings. [ENDQUOTE]

Is it possible, in your opinion, that the "concerned Americans" did not "swoop" into the meetings but got there as everyone else did? And is it possible that they see and experience the meetings not as a place to openly discuss all points of view but as tools to promote THE PLAN? Is it possible that they have seen the power of COMMUNITY ORGANIZING"--how well it has worked for Obama and feel free to borrow his tactics?

[QUOTE=johnnyD] These "concerned Americans" you speak of are nothing but a piss-poor representation of those opposed to the Health Care proposals. Which is a shame because now no one talking against the bill will be taken seriously. This just gives more ammo for the Dems to criticize the Republicans to invalidate many valid points.[ENDQUOTE]

Have you noticed that the Dems have a filibuster proof senate? Have you noticed, if they can get all Dems on board they can pass whatever they want? Even a Government Health Care bill that you dissaprove of? And the only way to stop it is to scare the Bejesus out of enough Dems from conservative states to oppose the plan? Have you noticed that only a few Dems are afraid of your "valid points", and that if the intended PR victory that the so-called town hall meetings, staged to soften public opposition to THE PLAN works, those few Dems (along with some party arm twisting and political promises) will come on board and all your "valid points" will be irrelevant? What, btw (or precisely, as you like to say), are your valid points? Do you speak them? Do you go to the meetings to present serious polite conversation? What are you doing to stop a flawed bill, or is it just a polite matter between civilized folk, and the winner takes all, and the most drastic shift in American values will have been civilly, peacefully, and orderly won? Are you putting up any kind of fight?

I like Glenn Beck. Do you hear of anyone else doing ANY reporting on ACORN? Considering they have a BIG stake in this administration, and have a lot of govt money going their way, you would think the media would investigate and actually WANT to get a story on an organization nobody knows about.

Much of what Beck does would fit one or more of the dictionary definitions of "reporting"--including what Bocephus was referring to.

ACORN?

What's interesting is that members of the GOP have aligned themselves with ACORN to pass legislation when they thought it was the right thing to do.

Beck is just trying to squeeze another drop of water from a very dry campaign rhetorical device.

Beck is getting free publicity from all of this. I'd be willing to bet that he'll have a bit of a ratings spike because people who have never seen the show will tune in to see what's going on. Some will switch the channel right away and others may decide that they like the show. The people who already watch aren't going anywhere because a couple of sponsors pulled their ads. And I'm sure there are already other companies waiting to get ad slots on his program. I haven't seen more than 30 seconds of the show, but it seems to be pretty popular with a lot of people. Just not my cup of tea.

Conservatism is not about leaving people behind. Conservatism is about empowering people to catch up, to give them tools at their disposal that make it possible for them to access all the hope, all the promise, all the opportunity that America offers. - Marco Rubio

Beck has lost it. He had started out with a pretty good show when first aired. He has run out of good content and now just bobbles, redundant. His shows are basically repititious, over and over ,just different verbiage. Maybe he is back on the sauce. I just click to another station such as "The Blue Planet," much more interesting.

Rush
He is very patriotic and smart and makes about 35 million a year. he is a pillhead and must be brain burnt. You can only take so much of him. After listening to him for a half hour or so, you need to turn on at least country music.

Bryan, if you feel that the current president's policies will undermine the future of this country and eliminate the foundation that made this country great, I believe it is patriotic to want him to fail.

Disagreeing with him is one thing; using the word Fail when discussing the leader of our country to me, is stupid.

I rarely agreed with Bush, but wanting him to 'Fail' at his job was not even close to being on my radar. Just a poor choice of words by a fat hypocrite...

Rush Limbaugh is a corporate whore who preys on people's worst instincts to make himself very, very rich.

That's not to say there aren't others who do the exact same thing, but he's no patriot.

he stated that he wanted Obama to fail at instituting his socialist policies...VERY PATRIOTIC...socialism in UN-American....

"preys on people's worst instincts"

what exactly would those worst instincts be Spence? we have a president that fans the fires of racism and class envy at EVERY opportunity, lies continually, mocks CERTAIN Americans that don't share his values ...attacks those that disagree with him and uses his minions like Acorn and the union thugs to intimidate and physically assault dissenters, we have a radical socialist thug for a president, Saul Alynskite scum like Pelosi, Reed, Frank, Dodd, Schumer, Durbin types that you defend continually and you have the audacity to suggest that someone (and others like him) Limbaugh is no patriot because he dares point out the truth about these rats ?....

the country will not fail simply because Obama does, we survived Carter....remember?

You can be patriotic to your country but, you do not have to stand for any one person if they do not believe in anothers believe or reasoning. That is why you have Republicans, JackAsses (Democrats) and people like me, Independents.

Example:
The French underground. They believed in their country but, not Hitlers plan of the way they would be living under his rule. Hitler failed

The Germans:
The German generals were patriotic to their country and after awhile they felt that Hitler had to go even tho they failed with their plot to assasinate, they were patriotic. At the end Hitler failed.

I am patriotic to my country, I believe in this country, served in the USMC. Does not mean that I believe in this President. He is leading us down the wrong path with the healthcare plan, a one payer system and creating to much debt for you and I.

Also noticed how you choose your words. One of President Obama's down falls in his ratings was for using a word like the one you used, he used the word stupidly. Be carefull about the words you use, they could make one feel that one is dumb.

Listen to yourselves! Out of eight posts in this thread by 3 of you, (JohnnyD, Rirockhound, Spence) are these ad hominem attacks:

"rile the drones"
"feed the ignorant"
"behaving like an idiot"
"piss-poor representation"
"using the word fail . . . is stupid"
"fat hypocrite"
"Rush Limbaugh is a corporate whore"

And this by two of you who decry Republicans calling liberals liberal.

How is doing a good job for your employer tantamount to being a whore? Rush has stated many things publicly, but he has never stated that he is a whore. Again, you transform words in a slippery fashion to suit your argument. Then, perhaps, if you, Spence, work for somebody and you, by your efforts help your employer earn profits . . . maybe you consider YOURSELF a whore. Or if you're self-employed, maybe you consider yourself the Madam.
