Sunked boat
Got to my marina at 3 AM this morning just to check and make sure the auto bilge pump was working. My boat was fine but the guy across from me SANK!!!
Just the bow out of water, motor completely submerged. I called the Warwick Fire Dept and they came and call DEM and Police. Funny part is the cop who showed up in my nephew thru marriage and he couldn't believe I was wandering around the marina in that weather. Anyway, the boat is owned by a Comm guy and it's bass season in RI so he's out of business.

pAULIE
It use to happen all the time / when there were alot more wooded skiffs .
Even more so in the winter ... we have a heavy snow & then rain / maybe refreeze ........ dead weight .
Plus breaking thru the ice was a adventure / that ice could slice thru a hull / wood or glass like it was butter .
Back in the day .. we would pull the skiffs out & put tin on bottom .. just the sides & the keel ><><
Back then you really had to work together to make it ...........If you were a loner or a A/H >>>>> you has either a VERY long or Very short winter <><><><><

A few good reasons to trailer, not ever having to worry if 4" of rain falls, never having to worry about bottom paint, being able to pick a launch based on bite or wind, having your boat in your driveway to work on things as needed, less threat of thieves getting on board and a few more for sure. You guys with slips certainly have your list of advantages, but I do like having options on where to launch and fish, I'd consider that one a biggey.

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

Too much of a PIA to launch everytime I go out. I fish everyday that I am home. With my travel for work, maintaining 15 acres and the house and building. I want to be able to drive to the boat, turn the key and go.
I agree you can travel around but I am mainly a Bay fisherman so I can get from Prov to Newport, Brenton Reef, Jamestown in 15 to 20 minutes. I have 2 batteries, 2 bilge pumps so I don't worry. Bottom paint is an hour as my winterizing guy power washes the hull. It just works for me. I could never envision trailering.

even the newer 2 strokes are heavier...My 115 4 cyl.( which weighs the same as an 80 or 90 4 cyl 2 stroke) merc 2 stroke weighs 100lbs more than my 86.. 90 merc in line 6 did.... I keep the scupper plugs in and have a 1500 gpm pump gaurding the deck.. and have done so for the last 20 years..

I trailered for one season. I wont do it again. To much of a PIA coming in at 2 am, and dealing with that. I jump on and jump in. I fish the same areas I surfcasted so it works for me.
And its WAY easier with the wife and dogs when we go out. We jump on and done. theres no yelling at wife when she screws something up while launching.

GF and I can launch in zero time flat. I guess it also helps when she got her license she was driving a 1 ton with a trailer behind it for her father's landscraping business now and then.
And the freakout clowns at the ramp? Let em freak out. Trying to rush just causes issues. If I see something I'll make a friendly comment, usually gets a thanks, if it gets an attitude, eff em, let em keep screwing up.
