Of course in Scotland they call it GOF, no l.

I'm in.

We going to play some sort of best ball or scramble format? If yes, I'm bringing Brad and Messy Matty.

I'd be in, depending on the day.

Play more golf than I get to fish, unfortunately.

Well you must choose young gwasshoppah Scramble is where everyone hits the shot and you pick the best shot and repeat until in the hole, best ball is everyone plays their own ball and you take the best score of the group, probly better incorporated with handicapps and all that jazz. A scramble would probly be more fun, easier to score, and quicker

When I was down in Orlando in mid-June, we hired a guy to take us out on the resort property to fish the golf ponds of the resort ...along with some lakes on the property not accessible to the golfers ... the guy drove us around on one of those four wheelers they use hog hunting, barreling through water and other areas ... it was awesome ... although we had to wait for a few big gators to clear the path so they didn't attack the buggy ... but we got bass and some other fish.

And when I lived on Key Biscayne, FLA, we used to go out on the golf course in the low-light hours when the course wasn't officially open and go for baby tarpon in some of the ponds that were connected to Biscayne Bay ... that was the best.

if you do have the outing ... maybe add in Raven's recommendation for counting fish activity ... may add a flare to the game ...

Plently of time for both. Im playing Wattamoisett at noon, and soaking eels tonight.

Im in, we should do a foursome tourny style. Base it on handicaps. Best ball.

Ran into ProfessorM today. We were trying to think of a relatively centrally located public track that wouldnt break the bank. Poquoy Brook is in Lakeland I think isnt too bad. Old Scotland Links is near Raynham there thats a fun public track. Any other suggestions?

DW field in Brockton or Braintree muni are a few other affordable options. Good layouts but a hackers paradise

I think Raynham would be a good deal due to it being close to halfway for most.

I'd doubt very many of those who would play have a handicap (other than their swing). And I'd be fine with a best ball, but most would rather play a scramble I'm sure.

Some thoughts forwarded to me by someone who knows..... BB.

I would try to identify a goal for the tourney before doing any more legwork. If its for fun only then you can check the greater Boston area for suitable sites once you get an accurate head count. I would expect to pay 50-70 dollars per head for greens fees and carts for the typical 18 hole daily fee course. Higher end courses will run 75-125 dollars for fees and carts.

If you are trying to use the tournament as a fundraiser then its a different story. A larger group of participants (say 50-100 people) is needed to generate any revenue. You'll likely need to consider having an auction or raffle to make money as margins are real tight at most courses and your fees will barely cover expenses.

Seeing most fishermen are cheap unless they're spending money on fishing tackle (like me) I'd guess you might attract 12-16 guys from the site at best, which is enough for 3-4 foursomes.

Another thing to consider is timing. Weekends you'll pay premium greens fees and weekdays you might find the best deals. The tradeoff is guys might not be available during the week when you can get the best rates.

As for courses, I'd look into Poquoy Brook in Lakeville as its a real nice course, well maintained and reasonably priced. They host a ton of events and might be a good fit budget wise. Pine Hills in Plymouth is one of the best places to play but likely will run in the 100 dollar range unless they're doing a special.

Might want to put up a quick survey on the site to see how guys respond to timing, location, and price point to help you hone in on a site. Most guys are SE mass centric so that's why I mention Plymouth/Lakeville area.

So with that on the table, does anyone want to take the lead here? I have way too much on my table and am geographically too far away to organize. As for a charity, maybe a S-B charity fund to be managed by a board who decides how to distribute

so Ross
I know how you change clothes to fish like 4 times a day . Very stylish . Still have funny thoughts about our first trip to Cutty . Still the best crew and the best time I have ever had fishing !! never laughed so much .
So how do you dress for golf >>>> got nickers and them damn flat hats ? Them spike shoes make great aerators for lawns

I tried golf on a course once and a 70+ guy walked 3 fairways to ask If I played Hockey . My reply was how could you tell that far away . I must suck bad at golf !

LOL

I would be interested in playing ...

You can set up an "informal" tournament at most public courses ... I do this several times each year for my College Fraternity Alumni members. Just choose a time AFTER Labor Day, during the week, and ask to reserve a block of times ... just get an idea of the number of foursomes you expect. Noon starts work well ... lunch before and drinks/dinner after at the club's bar (they love that). I usually run a Calloway tournament (a way to handicap players based on the score of the round ... official handicap is not required). Collect a few extra $$$ at tee-off and use it for the pot

Golfers will appreciate this report. I rep a company that builds custom air handlers and frequently get to play at Sedgefield CC in Greensboro NC, where the Windum Open was played a few weeks back. OMG is all I can say about the greens. I was down for factory testing on some units going on the Longwood medical center and played less than a week after the tourney. Fast and hard doesn't even discribe it, you could even get a repair tool in to attempt to fix what few divites the green would even show you. Luckily I was hitting fairways and shot a 92, if the greens hadn't been so brutal, I'd have probably been mid 80's.

So what happened to this outing? What's the best track you've played, this Jones course and the CC locally are very similar and my best two so far. I've not had a chance to play to many of the top PGA tracks, but I'd shell out the $400 or more to play a couple of those.

2 weeks ago I was in San Diego and played Torrey pines. The views throughout that course were unreal. Every hole was a picture hole. The $200+ fee was stiff though.
