Groton, Long Point
Despite the fact that I grew up in CT, I've never surf fished in the state at all....virtually all my experience is in MA, RI and ME.
So it was with some excitement that I learned this AM that a good buddy of mine might be purchasing an ocean front home on Long Point in Groton. (Must be nice, huh?)
Any insight into how the fishing might be in that area? I vaguely remember people surf fishing at Bluff Point St Park when I was a kid (70s/80s), which is the next point over. Basically, I'm wondering what the odds of catching fish off the rocks right on his property might be, or anywhere else nearby.
He's getting a boat which will be great too, but I'm a surf guy.
Any color on fishing the shore in that area would be appreciated.

Funny.
Yeah I figured as much, but was hoping at least someone would say "I've fished there and you can definitely do well".
Guess it doesn't matter as I'll try no matter what and find out myself, but was just trying to set expectations appropriatly.

Stay friends with this guy, like forever.
I have never fished there, however, Google Earth is very telling.
Just look at how much water moves across that point. There are huge bowls to the East and West, so both flood and drop look good to me.
I know there must be some sweet rips and it looks nice and rocky.
Stay friends with this guy, like forever.

1 @ 32 Pledge. Our beloved Striped Bass are in trouble AGAIN.
I fished through the lean years and don't want to live through another collapse of the stock.
2 fish @ 28" is ridiculous.

Totally agree Parker23, that's why I posted. Realized it had huge potential and was surrounded by tons of well known hot spots, but had never heard anything about fishing there. Started getting really excited so I wanted to try to find some real info before my expectations got too wildly out of control!

yes..... on all accounts
access is virtually IMPOSSIBLE due to private property on all sides and a VERY STRICT neighborhood association that controls access in and out of the place.
it does hold fish (I've only accessed it from a boat) when the tide is running

GLP
Grew up in the area. The police are not bad people, just remember that unless you have a parking sticker, you can't park! You will have to park at your friends house. As to fishing there, it can be great. You'll have to get use to stormy weather and early hours. Big hint, Surf fish from the rocks and the breach way. As always out tide is the best.P.M. me and I'll fill-in all the blanks.

There's fish in that area.
Access is always a problem, but it looks like you have that knocked.
Check it out at low tide during the day and then go back with your wetsuit at night. Or hook up with some locals, you have a place to park, they know the area.

When walking down the street at 1am in the rain with a surfrod, plug bag and oilers on... and asked by GLP police what you are doing, and where are you parked? Dont start the conversation off with "stealing vcr's what do you think I'm doing and in my driveway". You'll get a lot of tickets for doing 27mhp in a 25 zone.
