Is SB.com fading away???

I recall the "old days" of the "internet" when we had actual web pages and web sites. This place was pretty active. I notice less and less activity here. Is it being siphoned off to other sites or social media sites? Are we going the way of AOL and modems?
I guess there is something like 8000 members but only about 300 are "active" now. WHat was the most active members we have had? It just seems that things have slowed here considerably. (esp since the facebook revolution)

I know no one wants to talk about problems but it could help.
Do we need more threads like Giada D's breasts?
Or I love tramp stamps? (or, God forbid...I love nipple piercing)
Or should we enter the spot burning arena like all the other forms of media today that tell you where/when/how". Face it spots are burned weekly in many places. Maybe we should take it the next step and post lan/lons and time to be there.
Or
Sell fishing crap online at discount prices?

I like a lot of the people that "live" here and that is why I hang out. But what do I know?

I know none of the above are easy to swallow but something should happen or maybe it is just time to fade away into cyberspace.....

age factor //

&&& not as many get togethers .when we had the 4 legs to had a great group .....

plus IMO its shifted to a more central bass group / which is fine , But to be honest .......
We use to fish together quite a bit .
In the last f years . I,ve only fished with two members that I met on this site //& one won,t fish with me anymore ..since I enforced topless fishing .... she didn,t like the bounce .

John R & I havn,t even fished together & we live 1/2 apart .

&&&&&&&&&&& yes Sandman .......Facebook has taken a toll on alot of sites ,,,,,,,,,,I see alot of guys & photos from this site on there <><><><

ENJOY WHAT YOU HAVE !!!

Notice how no one even posts a picture of a fish here, for fear of bearing chastised for keeping a legal fish or 2?

I for one have fished with a few guys met on the site quite a bit this year. I literally knew nothing about fishing 4 years ago. Slingah told me to check in here, Ty and I can't begin to thank all you guys enough for what you have taught us. We've met alot of great friends and have been given great opportunities, all a direct result of SB. So thanks everyone.

I think I was there Don. Maybe Fred and Larry too if that is the time you're talking about. Many good times were had down the Backside and locally fishing with all you bums. A great chapter in my life and a real feeling of belonging to something special (S-B.com)
I think that the back beaches drying up, crowds and greed at the Canal and Facebook for sure all play into this site being different and less active. A lot of the old regulars have slowed down too. Fishing and posting.

Meeting great people like you Andy makes this site the best
I've met a lot of fishermen and women here and feel privileged to call them friends.
Hi Jim I enjoy your posts

sometimes life gets busy, little time to fish, family comes first, work and other interests. maybe facebook has put a dent in traffic here like was mentioned.

I wasn't around in the SB.com "glory days", but I can tell you, that as a 33 year old fishing nut, this site has been a god send! People like Nightfighter, Tysdad, slipknot, piemma and proff m, spincognito...etc have all gone out of their way to give me advice I believe I can't find anywhere else, at least not without being made to feel stupid for asking new guy questions. So, I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. Yes I have facebook, but it isn't as much fun getting 56 "likes" on striped bass pictures when the questions are "is that a shark?", or "nice cod". The people here understand, and even though there's little pissing contests every now and then, this has been the most inviting site I've had the privilege to find. So don't go anywhere anytime soon guys, I have lots more questions, pictures to post to make piemma bust on, and people to invite to fish with.

I think people that really fish like many of the contirbutors here are weary about posting their catches anywhere. I haven't posted a single fish anywhere all year. I really don't want people other than friends to know when I am catching. So many are looking for a quick fish grab rather than actually figuring things out on their own. That being said in general. I think a site with 300 good posters is more enjoyable than a site with 100000 heroes. I don't know of a time when any one asked a valid question on here and was lambasted as opposed to given valid advice.

I also have noticed that the site has been slow. i think it may be the time of year. I'm still posting as much as ever but I don't see a lot of the guys that I use to, here. maybe it is a sign of the times. Facebook certainly has siphoned off a lot of the picture posting.

All of the above. Facebook, fishing, get togethers, getting people on the same page, ny access to the site has been less than I'd like.

Good question John. Not sure. I don't think it's anything you did or the site failed to do. It may be just a sign of the time. If you look at the other site they get a ton of traffic but it pure muck.

Stuff like:
My bail snaps shut of my 704, why. What pound line should I use?.Stuff thats been answered a million time. Maybe the younger guys just are not gravitating here. I don't know the reason.
It does seem the social aspect of fishing is disappearing. Guys I use to fish with are loaded down with family and financial responsibilities. Even my nephew hasn't wet a line with me in 2 months. Just to busy with work, kids, etc.
Perhaps it will change over the winter

Personally I'd like to see more people joining fishing clubs and ACTUALLY meeting other people with the same interests.

The clubs have suffered due to the internet sites (so they say), now the sites are suffering due to FB? I don't' get it.

Nothing better than getting out of the house for an evening, going to a club and shaking hands with fellow fisherman/women. Small talk, have a beer or a coffee. Listen to knowledgeable fishermen.

I think, it's a little of everything above...there's only so ,many ways to say things with out beating it to death.. this web site is busier than alot of them, even though most of the members fish and reside in new England, take a look over on NE sportsman... I think the salt water section hasn't seen a post since April...Stripers 247 is all but dead,.. everything in life is cyclical... I feel internet web sites are not exempt to that...

I still stop by, usually first thing in the morning and then at the end of the day. If work ever blocks this type of forum I would be here less

IDK, some of the really good conent of years past has dwindled, the "how to's" and with some many folks paranoid about access and spots, the "where to's" have disappeared all together.

How to get it back? How about a forum titled "This Week's Best (or worst) Experience". Personally, what I enjoy most these days (since I already know it all and where to fish ) is the detailed stories that are sometimes posted that capture the fishing/catching experiences that we encounter. A fish pic is cool, but how you fooled her and under what conditions is what really interests me.

I'm a member of a spearfishing/ freediving website. It's a big forum. California, Florida, etc. It's broken down into regions. I hang in the New England one. Whatever. Who gives a sh*t.

My point is that one of their most popular posts is a bikini thread--the thing literally goes on for infinity. Even I have been in there looking around--my goodness have swim suits become tiny. When did that happen? The weed is stronger and women's suits have become tiny. Those are my observations about life.

Most of the original guys still post and to me they are all great friends, all the best people I've ever met. I enjoy their posts and the feeling of how special each one is in their own way. Many times their posts make my day.

That being said, I think most people are so busy with their lives, kids, work, etc
that they just don't have the time anymore. I'm retired and seem to have less time for myself now then ever. Working on the house, 6 Grandkids, too busy to make plugs anymore, and fish half as much as I used too. Throw in age too.

But to me this site is home, many great memories and a lot of gratitude for those who are so willing to share their knowledge and selves to help.
Great Political Forum and Grumpy old guys too for letting off steam too.
Can't beat this place.

I have formed some great friendships through people met here on S-B. Maybe we should try to bring back the old get togethers as they were not only a ton of fun but helped to bring members together and introduce each other. I'll never forget the first time I met Redlite at a Rhody GTG and he pulled out a "sex toy" from under the seat of his truck and proceeded to inset hooks into it like a new surf plug. Ah... good times!

Maybe a thread where you can post a pic, and a little description on how you enticed her to eat your hook. Fish porn is always good in my opinion, regardless of how big.

Arrow also (some thoughts)

we have lost some important members to the big pond in the sky....

that and there's been a desecration of our shores due to seals meaning it's not as pristine as it once was plus all the restrictions from plover's reducing access , over fishing by people down south in Maryland using nets and not getting caught poaching ,pollution in the Chesapeake bay.

Each one of these is a contributing factor.

Facebook was fun at first being new and all but then they decided to use your "likes" for their own advertising purposes which is why i left..
and now they have taken that a step further by using your picture next to those same ads as your personal endorsement.
