Newport Jerky Company

Will be open starting tomorrow. We opened over the weekend and did very well and can't wait or some good weather!! We are at 424 Thames st. If any of you guys stop in and I'm not there just mention s-b.com for 20% off. Facebook is up and running. Even though I hate it it's needed for the business. Hope to see some of you guys down there.

Tough time to be opening a business, especially now with tolls on both ends and the GA looking for more money.Sorry to come across as a pessimist but that is the reality of the situation.

As busy as we were this weekend I'm not worried about the tolls. I'll buy an easy pass and write it off on my taxes.

That's not what I was really getting at.You can write it off(maybe) but your customers can not.Think about this:RI has a new initiative called "crossRIbridges.com" and then ask yourself why the state needs to do this. You had one busy weekend on one of the nicest days since last fall and you had a bunch of curious locals come out.

Trust me,having been involved with this toll crap from the beginning I'm the first person who wants to see business succeed but as long as people like Paiva-Weed and Fox are in charge its a tough sell, these people have made RI the single worst place in the US to start a business.

Best of luck...ain't nobody out there that loves good jerky more than me.And I will certainly be one of your customers.

Most of the people were from Western Ma, CT, NY and Joisey. I guess those folks come down before it get's crazy busy and the hotel prices skyrocket. The toll sucks but it's not going to turn Newport into a ghost town. The people that vacation there in the summer aren't the type that are going to worry about paying a toll. I have done my homework on the tourism. The toll is gonna be a PIA for a lot of people who are within driving distance of Newport and want to come down for the day and obviously anyone that commutes to work.

Basswipes points are valid, but Newport will always draw touristas from every corner of the globe. And when the cruise ships come in... Bazinga!!!

Tolls are only going to effect commuters and they will never detract from someone coming to visit Newport.

The parking meters and the "parking Gestapo" that issues parking tickets do more to insure that people won't come back. That's a fact.

It's something like 60 ships. And the many timeshares bring in new faces every week.

I'll be coming down with about 50 people for a bachelor party in September and I'll make sure NJC is on the agenda for us. Like Jay said, there's tons of people from the hotels and timeshares and they'll be walking by the store. Factor in the music festivals, boat show, 4th of July and everything else Newport does for tourism, and business should be great. I'll be in south county at some point this week. I'll try to swing by before heading home.

Let's put something together. Maybe 20 bucks a head. I'll put a wild game tasting together along with cold beers before you guys go out and tear it up!

I grew up in Newport and I just moved back. Uggggg

If there is one thing about the town is the number of shops that come and go on lower Thames st... That said the ones that go under are the ones that either sold junk or mis managed their money in the winter.

A tip... You are going to probably sell 1/16th the product in February than you will in august.

I won't sell anything in February because I won't be open. I think it has to do with both junk and mismanagement of money

Habenero or hotter?Don't be teezin me!

Seriously if you mess with hot pepper concoctions than you definitely have a customer in me.

And if you're interested in insanely hot peppers come next Sept./Oct. I do grow them way beyond the amount I will ever consume.

It's a wood smoked peppered venison. It's very moist, wet actually. And it's very thick pieces of meat. I do have a buffalo habanero in the shop that has some real heat to it.

john Habs turned me on to good Jerky... oh man i can still taste it. it was lathered in beef fat. teriyaki strips.

Before Habs showed me the light, all i knew about Jerky was the crap in a bag you get at a super market... meh....

When i said "mis managed money" what i specifically meant was that new businesses would think that the money they made in the summer would be the same in the winter and not stash their nuts like a good squirrel to get them through the winter...
