Quote:
WESTERLY — A fisherman died Tuesday morning after his 25-foot vessel was involved in a collision with a much larger one in rough seas just southwest of Watch Hill Lighthouse.
The victim was identified by friends as 81-year-old Walter Krupinski, a longtime commercial rod-and-reel fisherman who sold his catch at Stonington Town Dock and sometimes filled in as dockmaster.
According to a release from the U.S. Coast Guard, reports of the collision came in from nearby boaters at about 10:18 a.m. Coast Guard Station New London dispatched two 45-foot response boats to the scene, and they were joined by first-responders, including a paramedic from the Westerly Ambulance Corps, aboard a Watch Hill Fire Department boat.

hard to imagine with today's technology and the size of the ocean
that these accidents still happen but the rough seas were more than
likely partly to blame. Sad to hear that a long time Rod and Reel fisherman
died doing what he Loved... my condolences to the Family.

Similar thing happened off of Montauk last week. Thank goodness that time everyone was O.K. but the big boat ran after the collision (it was at night) and they are still looking for it.

That's one of the reasons when I drop the anchor I keep a very close eye on other boat traffic and keep a good sharp knife on my belt (in case I need to cut it off in a hurry). I also like to keep the motor idling, even though is bugs my fishing partner. There are too many idiots driving huge boats out there.
Died fishing, thank god there weren't any kids with him.
May he Rest in Peace
