Rod Locks

Well, my family has always told me I should invent something and that it would probably be fishing related. I have a thought and would like a little feedback from fellow anglers to see if it is at all worth following up with. I know many of you, like myself, have built and/or bought rod holders for your vehicle to transport your rods safely to your fishing grounds. Over the past few years I have seen many versions of racks for various vehicles. However, most if not all have lacked one thing.... a way to lock the rods into the rack if you should happen to stop for that midnight snack or for whatever reason you may not be at your vehicle but have rods in tow. Some of you may be saying who is going to steel my rods out of my vehicle? I have known a few that have lost some very valuable rods and reels because while they were in the store for that midnight snack (abt 15-20 min or less) have returned to find something missing.

Anyway, I have an idea of a way to lock rods to whatever type of rack you may have on your vehicle and would like to know if the fishing public would be interested in such a thing if they happened to see it in their local tackle shop. If fellow anglers would be interested reply to this message and please leave any comments. If I do proceed with this idea I don't know how long it would take to get it out into the hads of the public or if it would even be worth the effort, but that's something for me to find out later.

Thanks for your input.

Bill

RE:Rod Locks

I guess it depends on what you have in mind. I use Thule ski racks and they lock. Yakima racks lock also. The reels are nto protected though, just the rods. If your idea protects rods and reels it might have some interest......

RE:Rod Locks

Same here, my back rod rack is through bolted into the the rear shell of my Bronco but the front doesn't lock down. I would be interested in locking the rods and the reels down on the rear rack. This wouldn't stop vandals but could prevent theft. Keep me updated as I'm interested...

RE:Rod Locks

It must lock both rod and reels for theft to be nonexistant . I have a surfcaster rack and it locks the rods not the reels . Keep us updated OK . But by all means keep thinking about it others really need the help locking their rods down . Like you said most people believe it wont happen to me , But it will sooner or later
