O.K. let"s stop
playing games! i respect most of the real fisherman on this site... but some things have gone to far!!! like where to fish, when to fish and how to fish... please spend some time checking out areas you'd like to fish and stop looking for handouts, do the work and you will be rewarded...

Well since you just added an angry post on my "Gator clips..." thread 15 minutes before you posted this I assume I contributed to your frustration? Hey sorry if I ask too much, I wasn't asking for specific spots or handouts dude, i was just looking for some help on keeping eels alive that I couldnt find in the multiple searches I have done.....are you angry at only me?

I was under the impression that this site was here to do exactly what your saying we shouldn't use it for. I thought this was here to help improve the over-all fishing experience, a place where we can come to ask the "Dumb" questions and get an honest answer (granted w/ a little extra dose of Sarcasm, But that is also part of the experience).
And could you also define 'Real Fisherman" for me. Is there some sort of certification process I need to go through, any Age requirements? Do I need to have a boat or a certain amount of setups? I thought just wanting to fish and having a passion for it was the only requirement.
I'm pretty sure that everyone on this site grabbed a fishing rod for the 1st time and wondered what to do with it. and I'm sure someone helped them out. This website is that "Someone"
I've been fishing 30 years, Mostly freshwater, but if someone asks me do I know what baits to throw and where is a good place to grab good-sized large-mouth I'm more than happy to tell them. Because I want them to enjoy fishing as much as I have over the years.
Sorry if I'm sounding a little preachy but that post was definitely not in the spirit of what this website is all about.

People can ask whatever they like. If the question is over the limits for someone . they don't answere it . If the question is out of line for everyone , they get no answeres or they get crap for asking. It sort of takes care of itself.
On the specific issues that were brought up , I would just caution to be careful about divulging spots , regardless of how cleverly the question is worded. I think info on spots should be handled on a personal level. one to one in emails or in face to face discussion. if you announce a spot , you will have a crowd there the next day. This fall at the Canal got me really disgusted. I don't mind sharing a spot but when a whole tribe comes in and fishes the spots like idiots it gets me ..well , you know.

I can see the "Where to fish" being a touchy subject. everybody should be allowed their favorite spots. But shouldn't "When to fish" and "How to fish" be open to discussion. Those are the types of threads that help people become better fishermen.

Shore - don't know what has you fired up....
We've all had this discussion before and while I don't think its wise to post every nuance and method while fishing it is the nature of the site to help out. Sometimes the question gets out of hand and the replies bear that out but overall, people here are very helpful. Its a great combination of knowledge, fun, & respect.... Spots are always the tricky. Before when spots were mentioned frequently in reports, I went from seeing a couple people per night at this particulat spot, post about a good night of keepers and there was 25 people the next several nights. Even had a non site member e-mail and accused me of lying about where I caught fish. It might have been cooincidental but for a few weeks the Globes (or Heralds) fishing reports looked an AWFUL lot like ours including similar verbage. So talking currently active spots can be rough and should be talked of in generalities.

Oops
Here we go again? You mean there has been discussion on this in the past?
I would think a person with experience fishing would be more than glad to share that experience with 'newbies' such as I.
Oh well. Anyone want to know how to replace a dinged prop, let me know, I are an expert now. 6 trips, 3 dinged props.
Now to learn how to fish.

Hehehe - when I was living outside of Boston I'd read the Globe on the way in and Herald on the way out. I forget which one it was but for a couple weeks there would be unattributed sentences which looked eerily like what was posted here. I laughed a little seeing that, Didn't last for long - may have been cooincidental
Newboater - the knowledge is to share, some of the finer points may not neccesarily work out to a new anglers advantage. I think someone with 2 weeks under their belt should not try to rig an eel or try to throw 5 OZ jigs at the Ditch on a Newel

Shore Maniac...I think you need to take a little nap and come back in a couple hours with an apology to the members of this site. Something obviously has you stirred but there is no need to take out your frustrations on these folks of which I am one. If you have a problem with people discussing fishing spots, then do your part and don't discuss them openly, I just PM the people I choose to share a spot with and that is that. Also stow away that "Real Fisherman" comment, I must assume you are not familiar with many people on this site so you have no right to assault anyones ability with a rod and reel, be it boat, surf or otherwise. I must agree with The Dad Fisherman, you are way out of line here. I am the first in line to be open with people in regards to fishing and where to fish, as many people here have been with me. This is how mutual respect is formed and you ain't winning any points by acting this way!!!! Can't we all just....get along????

So what would you do if you hooked the next world record striper from the shore and your Van Staal reel started to leak oil in the middle of the fight, and you're about to lose the fish in the rocks but a boat comes by and offers you a ride to fight the fish in more open water? Would you release it or keep it? Does it count since 1/2 of it is from a boat?

Oh yeah, specifically when, where, and how would I catch such a fish? Please tell me all your spots.
p.s. don't mind me I'm just being silly - not taking any potshots at anyone. Except Bassmaster.
