maine vacation

hi guys
Wife and I are taking the kids to bar harbor for a vacation in a couple of weeks. Wondering what towns we should stop at on the way. portland, freeport, old orchard, Ogunquit, Camden??????....just general vacation. sightseeing....shopping...maybe a boardwalk for the kids...no fishing or anything until we get up to arcadia to go hiking...then heading northwest to wells forks for white water and UTVing.

there are so many towns....just up in the air on which ones to hit and which ones to pass on.

Definitely Bean in Freeport.

If you hit Camp Ellis, Saco - just south along the coast from OOB, have something to eat at Houts (Who Oughts) for some of the best sidewalk seafood around ; )

Acadia National Park deserves some planning. Cadillac Mountain for sunrise is a special memory. But there are some good spots for sunset there too. I saw some great ones from Bass Harbor on southern end of island. Been too many moons for me to recommend anything else as all could have changed.... But steamers up and down the coast are a favorite of mine. Camden is worth it too. Only east coast ski lifts right near the ocean.

If you have time, Millinocket. MT. Katardin is majestic as are the others around it. Fishing for native Brook trout and landlocked salmon and pretty sure there are white water rafting trips on the West Branch of the Penobscot.

No boat, back in the suds.

Jim, Kennebunkport is a great town. Especially for a quick day trip stop through.

I'd highly recommend the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath ME. Good for people of all ages.
