Anyone Here Ever See The Gadabout Gaddis Show???
All of my life, I have heard about Gadabout Gaddis, wouldn't you think with todays technology and the interest in showing alot of older TV shows we might see an episode or a clip of Gadabout Gaddis???? I have never in my life even seen a clip of the show, let alone an entire episode! Maybe someday one of these all-sports stations will show some of the episodes. If any of you have seen the show could you give me some details and or your memories of the show or any particular episodes???

I remember seeing some of his shows, black & white back in the 60's early 70's. He was known as the flying fisherman, was an outdoor writer. Pretty sure that he took up residence in Bingham Maine, though he was not born there. there is an airport named after him in Bingham. Even though he traveled, I remember allot of his shows were of the back lakes of Maine.

Gaddis
Ya my brother, squid kids dad, is right. Our grandfather watched him on Saturdays. Wasn't he the one who had as his sponser timex watches. They would beat the poop out of a watch during the ad and then say "it takes a licking and keeps on ticking." I clearly remember the producers securing one to a swap buggy's tire and running it through the muck in the Okeefenokee Swamp. Or was that Marlin Perkins? Thats another thread, who remembers Marlin Perkins?

The Timex commercials were done by a guy named John Cameron Swayze. I remember when they strapped one to a horse's leg and it gallopped around a field and jumped into a tank of water..

I remember that the Gadabout Gaddis shows were not very well produced but that that they were the ONLY fishing show on TV.

As a little boy (single digits) I used to look forward to watching the show.
Now the Timex watch thing, I vaugely remember a commercial where the watch was fastened to the prop on some sort of hydrofoil or bass boat looking thing.

Gadabout had a good show. He was already old when I saw him .
The timex thing was a gas. I remember one they strapped to something like the prop on an outboard in a big trash can. . The watch band broke but they shot the camera down into the bucket of water and showed the second hand still ticking!

I remember Wild Kingdom well...Poor "Jim" having to swamp-wrestle a 15' gator while Marlin standing safely away, dicusses how dangerous it is.
My favorite old sportsman show was "The American Sportsman" with Curt Gowdy. I would watch that every Sunday. Nowadays his son trevor has a similar show and has curt on from time to time. It is good but Curt was the man back then!
Nowadays, I am more interested in the "Fish-ON!" like shows...where near naked models go fishing....sponsored by BUDWISER!

How about "The American Sportsman" with Curt Gowdy. I used to wait all week for that show to come one. At the time it was about the only one of its kind.

Sad to say, but I'm old enough to remember Gadabout Gaddis. It was the only game in town. Watched every chance I could.
