Fire at Hinkley Watch

This afternoon there was a serious fire at Hinkley Boat works in Portsmouth R I. Looked pretty bad, it could be seen from Fall River (Braga Bridge). One person was seriously injured.

Saw video on TV news. That mega yacht was an inferno stem to stern!

Surprised I couldn’t see the smoke. Not that far away. Heard someone did get injured pretty badly. Looks like many local town FD crews were called in.

Would think they would have fire suppression systems on boats that big? Seeing how quickly they went up maybe not.

"The sailboat had just been sold. The riggers got off moments before the propane tanks went as they had been trying to fight the fire. The name of the boat was Danniskjold"

This was text from my nephew who is a professional yacht/delivery captain. He was southeast of Bermuda on a Gunboat 60 when he sent it to my brother, who had sent him news of the fire. Just assuming he was able to cobble together his info from his circle of contacts.

And just found this;

I heard they were in the middle of changing the name of drinkability to Smokability when the fire started.

I know a guy who does it, he loves it actually. Probably a good job if you’re an expert sailor and want to test drive rich peoples toys.
