you "rig" the eels simply by hooking the eel thru the lower jaw and out one eye socket (some prefer going thu the head instead of the eye but I think that kills them) Use a quaility 5/0 hook with a sharp point. Then simply cast like a plug, once they hit the water they swim wonderful, but up to that point they squirm a bit...bring a rag to hold the critters. retrieve very slowly. Don't worry how far you cast them, reel slowly. I would only fish with them in the night. Avoid using if blue fish are in thick, they will bite you off until you have a hook with a eel head left.
The "hard" part about eel casting is setting the hook. Most newbies feel the rap of a 40 pounder and yank back only to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Let the fish swim for 10 sec before setting the hook. I know you don't beleive me but after you yank it out of her mouth a few times, try it.

1 1/2 oz and 2 oz. color varies, try black and purple, olive, white, parrot. Depending on the surf, Gibbs Darters also( dark colors)

Night time - needles with teasers and EELS - Did I mention Eels?

Day time - needles with teasers, blue/white dannys or beachmasters with teasers. Yozuris or Rebel windcheaters if the tide's near high...

If you are just starting use eels - try the circle hooks - Gamagatsu 5/0 work. With the rod tip fished near verticle, drop the tip "bow to the fish" at the instant of the tap. let out a little line (if conventional) - typically until the first pause but it varies by fish and it's just something you learn - and start retrieving with the rod tip low. Once the line is tight raise (no jerk) the rod tip up and fight the fish. If you are using the traditional method with regular 6/0 Mustads (sharpened) do just like Sandman says...

Personally - I like circles for cut bait (which I rarely do) - don't like them for live-linning fish - and the jury is still out on eels but it is the easiest way to get started on them...

Word n the street is the tide doesn't matter to much right now at Watch Hill. Fish the usual times, lst two of incoming through the last two of outgoing. Night is better, but it can light up like a Chritsmas tree during the day this time of year.

Weekapaug B&T is on Altantic Ave in Westerly - they have about everything you would need. The other OK Shop - Covedge, never reopened it's doors this year

... Pretty much sums it up - last 2-3 of the incoming to the same going down... The water get's pretty skinny around low... BUTCHA NEED KORKERS - You got 'em, right?

You can't park at the light - at best you'll get a ticket, at worst a REAL long walk. I don't think they'll bother you parking on the main drag (at the bottom of the hill) if you're there after the shops are closed. You can usually park at the Inn but sometimes they're a little tweaked when there are 40 Surf Sleds out in the way back...

I usually park in the shops on the right near the yacht club; have you had problems here?
Are you trying to tell me to park in the spots on the road in?
My dad and I parked in the shops on the right near the yacht club for years with no problem, but I noticed a blurb in the Beach Talk section of the Fisherman that said the Westerly police were a little ticked off with parking infractions this year.
Any RI local info would be of help.
Going down Thurs pm after 8 to catch full high and out there 'till 2 or so.

Rick - you should be OK there to park - the long walk is to the tow yard if you get towed from the Lighthouse... I haven't heard of anything bad on the street provided it's after hours...

I don't know if you are from around the Waltham area, but our parent company is JJ Mckay's in Wayland...I was a manager for the company that owns Jimmy's in Burlington, Arligton, Grassfield's in Waltham and Andover, etc., the menu is broadly based on those restaurants, with some ecclectic offerings from the other popular restaurants I have worked in on the East Coast.
BTW.. Gourmet Magazine rated the rest. that I worked in New Jersey "The Ryland Inn,' # 32 of the top 50 restaurants in the USA last month; the new place should be top notch.
