ok, i am gonna chime in here. i have no problem with gay marriage. what other people do in the THEIR lives is fine with me. if you don't have contact with my life, cool do what you please. one thing that always strikes me as funny is how homophobis someone can be, yet they sit right down in front of a porno and watch two hot girls do "things" to each other. homophobia = IGNORANCE! have you ever even met someone that is gay? if so, did it hurt you? did you come away worse for the situation? i guess growing up where i have has just opened me up to more of a variety of lifestyles. northampton, smith college, and mount holyoke college all within a few minutes of my home. sorry to bring back the serious twist to this thread, but i couldn't just sit back and let it go.

My two cents, gay marriage has nothing to do with being gay and everything to do with the almighty $. Its not the marriage certificate they want, its the perks, like survivor's social security, being able to file joint tax returns, etc. etc.

one further point i would like to make. if being gay is so bad, and God is so good, then how do you explain preist child diddlers? if in the eyes of God homosexuality is sinning, why would He allow for that to go on? yet another reason why i gave up on religion a long time ago!

Pasting an earlier quote here...
"Goose I agree. It's OK for the liberals to censor what many of us believe in while we have to "be tolerant" of things we find totally offensive"
The KKK is legal, American Nazi party, legal, White Supremicisist groups, legal.
I find those to be offensive. If your offended by gay marriage, deal with it, its part of being American
All men are created equal, endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, among these are life. liberty and the pursuit of
happiness.

Ok, as a liberal, and a person who supports this idea, I'm going to bite my lip a bit, not rant and tell a funny story instead...
In my other life I bartend during the summer on the tour boat I've been working on since I was 16; We do private parties and the such in the evenings. Anyways, one of our regular parties ~ once every 1-2 years is a gay non-profit from Providence. They are nice people mostly; like any crowd you get some a-holes, but thats life; These people tend to be the stereotypical gay/lesbians, the guys look like Freddy Mercury, the woman like gym teachers, but thats not the point, these people are friendly, tip well and generally very nice.. I lived for a while with 8 guys, one of whom was gay; he never hit on me or even acted gay, so it was never a big deal to most of us.. Anyways during the G/L charter summer of 2003, I was working the bar, and was doing the normal response thing to the most asked question "how are you handling this tonight" and I'd say fine, you guys are a fun crowd, tip well and dont cause problems, (The truth) except one guy; He was drinking jack and cokes (I remeber drinks well, not names) and he asked the same question; I gave my standard answer and he said "Yeah, well its bugging the #^^^^&e out of me, I'm here for my brother and this sucks"...
After a quick laugh, I gave him his drink free for his honesty and thought about it;
Here was this otherwise normal guy, obviously straight, completly uncomfortable with this crowd, but he was there to support his brother, I thought that was unbeliveably cool of him...
My point out of all of this is that gay/straight we are all the same people, and if two guys want to get married cause that are in love, good for them. The "Sanctity" of marriage is better exemplified by two loving men/women then in a marriage where a guy beats his wife or a spouse runs around on the other... So that argument is mute.. Love is love, be it straight or gay, the same love you guys have for your wives and I have for my girlfriend, it's all the same feeling, just because the Bible or a priest tells you it isnt right doesnt make it wrong..
Remeber that priests (and this is not a religion bash, I was brought up Catholic, but am not at all religious, just a point, dont anyone take this and run with it as a bash on a religion) dont live a very normal life; we all have urges and feelings, and the fact that they are married to their job, or God or whatever, is not the same as being married; What experience or place do they have telling others how to live a "normal life?"
Unfortunetly this will become a big issue in the upcoming election; National Security, Foriegn Policy, Education, Medicare, Social Security, are ALL magnitudes more important, yet here we are debating whether two guys or two women can get married...
Ok back to fish talk....
Also, remeber there are 1900+ members here, and ~1 in 10 are gay, so 190 people here may like the same sex..

Rock hound... remember, there are a alot of people in this world that can't think for themselves. They need to follow directions and have a course to steer to.. Thats fine, but its hard to get them to take the scenic route.
I love all you guys, well not that much, but I'm closing up shop on this thread.

Tlapinski....no one can answer for God, we only have our faith to guide us in the right direction......with that, I'll drop my dime on this subject..IMO = (what my faith has me to believe), (about the bold part)...God gave us the power to choose, the brains to know whats right and what's wrong...the decision is ultimately OURS. Do not blame God for man's fault's. God doesn't make a priest molest a child, this priest is human...just like you and me. He has the power to make the wrong decision, just like you and me. Priests are not saints, they're merely men with the same choices as the rest of us... I have never been afraid to speak about religion, reading thru this post...I can see fear disguised in ridicule. People need physical proof now-adays, Faith is just a word people use to name their daughters. I thank God that my parents planted a "Faith" seed in my heart years ago.
Weewee.....crabs are not GAY!!!
Ok, so what's wrong with being gay?? IMO... men were made for women, and women for men. What do you get when you combine a man and a woman?....a child, life, the next generation, mankind, our future....I could go on and on.
...now if being gay was the right way, what do you get when you combine a man with a man??... ... If looking back in time, everyone had been gay....then we would be using our bodies as machines to create people...I don't know how it doesn't make sense to you. If my father had been gay, where would I be? where would you be? tlapinski..when you decide to have that "one on one" talk with your son about the birds and the bees....what will you tell him? It's ok to touch other boys???

Bloo,
Ridicule of religion was not my intention, Religion is perfectly fine for anyone who wants to believe in it, I make the choice not to be religious, but if you go to church, beleive in God etc. I have Zero problem with that, so ridicule was not my intent..
As far as the last comment about giving the Birds and Bees Talk...
I have no kids right now, someday, probably.. But instead of asking what you would teach your kids, a better question is what would happen if one of your children was Gay? Would you no longer love them, disapprove of them? That is often the case and is a sad instance; One of my brother's best friends came out his Sr. year of High School, his parents threw him out of the house, and he never made ammends before his mother died recently of cancer.. My ultimate point is Gay or Straight we are all the same, we wake up each day, we go to work, we have friends, families etc.. We make the same choice about right and wrong, but I beleive that being gay or straight is not a choice, it's they way your born, or wired or whatever....

romans were gay !
Tiberius:
Tiberius, who spends most of the later years of his reign as emperor from AD 26 to 37 on the island of Capri, is said to have a special penchant for his spintriae (groups of young boys), with whom he surrounds himself and indulges in all manner of promiscuous behaviour. The walls of his bedrooms at Capri are reported to be decorated with various sexual acts and positions 'in case a performer should need an illustration of what [is] required'. Suetonius even accuses him of putting 'unweaned babies ... to his organ as though to the breast', but many of these reports may be put down to propaganda by his numerous opponents.
Nero:
Nero's reported sexual activities range from being seduced by his mother Agrippina to forcing his unwanted attentions on married women and boys. Famously, he takes two homosexual lovers, Pythagoras and Sporus, in 'marriage'. Nero is said to behave as the wife to Pythagoras and husband to Sporus, whom he has had castrated. Taken together with his 'artistic' performances (see The arts), when he will often take on a female part and dress accordingly, Nero's behaviour scandalises Rome and plays an important part in his downfall.
Elagabalus:
There seems to be barely a Roman emperor whose reign is not coloured in some way by his sexual appetites which are often prodigious in the extreme. Commodus, for example, emperor from AD 180 to 192, is said to have a harem of 300 girls and the same number of boys and to put on great orgies. But for sheer shock value, none can compare with the Syrian, Elagabalus, emperor from 218 to 222, who believes himself to be a living god.
Elagabalus is remarkable not only for being only 14 years old when he becomes absolute ruler of the Roman empire but also for his sexual activities while holding that office. In less than four years, he goes through three wives, including a Vestal Virgin a heinous crime against Roman law, which states that any Vestal breaking her vows of chastity should be buried alive.
But even more shocking in the eyes of respectable Roman society is his 'marriage' to a slave named Hierocles. Elagabalus likes nothing better than to dress as a woman and go around with his 'husband', who is even encouraged to beat the emperor as if he is his real wife. Sometimes Elagabalus plays out scenes in which Hierocles finds him with another man and punishes him for his 'infidelity'.
'For he wished to have the reputation of committing adultery, so that in this respect, too, he might imitate the most lewd women; and he would often allow himself to be caught in the very act, in consequence of which he used to be violently upbraided by his "husband" and beaten, so that he had black eyes.'
Cassius Dio
Elagabalus is also known to frequent the brothels of Rome, where he delights in performing the duties of the prostitutes. A confirmed transvestite, he is said to 'send out agents to search for those who [have] particularly large organs and bring them to the palace in order that he might enjoy their vigour'. He is also reported to have 'asked the physicians to contrive a woman's vagina in his body by means of an incision, promising them large sums for doing so'. It is hardly surprising that the Praetorian Guard finally runs out of patience and kills him.
with strange bathing habits " The wife of Emperor Nero had 500 asses to supply the milk for her baths" I dont even have one ass that gives milk !
One of the Bible verses most frequently cited by conservative, anti-gay Christians occurs in the Letter to the Romans, generally attributed except for its final verses to the Apostle Paul, Romans 1:26-27:
(26) For this reason, God gave them up to dishonorable passions. Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural, (27) and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error. (Revised Standard Version)

Elgabalus, Agrippenis (this was Nero's mother's name???), Commodus who gives their kids names like that? (Commodus must be the dude who invented the toilet). Say, I hope you guys have this discussion ironed out by the 21st, because I don't wanna be travelin' 250 miles to listen to a gay vs. straight debate.
