This is the off-topic forum of a fishing site...

Please remember that this is the off topic discussion board on a FISHING SITE. This is also a PUBLIC forum which can be viewed by about anyone with an Internet Connection and some watts to burn.

Very polarizing topics like this last one on Gay Marriage can and do go beyong the scope of this FISHING SITE.

The, err, lack of taste showed by some on a PUBLIC BOARD isn't all that great either. We can make some of the gutter stuff, well, guttered.

Open topics and open discussion is encouraged but please understand that this is a FISHING BOARD, nothing more than that. Big Time issues should be discussed among your peers and your community but in a forum (in the general sense ) that is for those purposes. Especially when it exceeds the scope of these boards.

Thanks,

John

Sorry

Insulted a long time member (I am a scrub you see) and didn't have the forsight to see that many couldn't handle this topic in a discussive manner for very long.

tried to put it in the correct box, oops

John,

In looking at your statements to me that I've got big ones and telling Sandman to calm down I know see that you didn't follow any of that tone in our posts.

Sandman was fine and all I did was agree when he stated he should stay away from this post.

what gives ?

go ahead. send me to detention. give a good reason other than I can be a wisea$$

I know it's none of my business but , Beach, you stated this
-----------
"I respect your opinion but if you can't handle it, stay away."
------------
before Sandman said "I think it's time I move on"

so I believe maybe he was fine up to the point you suggested he stay away.

Maybe a simple apology is in order.

I like both you guys here, I hope Jim comes back.

the second part of that post I quoted you from was also a little harsh IMO
---------------------
"maybe we should start a forum for the inflexible, hardened fisherman who only care to discuss what THEY believe in.

oh thats right. we already have it. See Grumpy old farts"

maybe you islanders are getting cabin fever over there, but we all are too, it has been a cold winter.
Can't we all get along.

Slip just hit the nail on the head - it's the MV -v- ACK rivalry going on. And all that ice had them locked in like the ice age

I gotta say...I'm a little disappointed that you closed the "other" thread ... I understand that some of the replys were ... and those replys could have possibly insulted some, but I enjoy a good debate...it's a shame people can't just say what's on their mind without getting pee-d off or pee-d on...or just simply posting "R" rated replys while trying to lighten things up...but I don't have children...so I guess I laugh it off. I'm sure it slips their mind that this board is WEB.WIDE.WOPEN and everyone has access. I agree that some of the remarks were.....ummm......and I apologize if anyone was insulted by anything I said.

I'm sure it's not all that easy being a site administrator, but I personally think "closing" threads is voo-doo....kind of like saying "you can't discuss this anymore". ... . I never cared for anyone telling me what I could and could not do, but I enjoy this site....and if you feel that "closing" threads is the correct thing to do, than so be it.

..p.s., I know you didn't say we couldn't discuss it....but to me, closing a thread is close to the same.

...it finally happened, there are no more secret spots

Ya but I believe the bottom line is that I didn't tell him to get off the site. I told him to get off the forum.

As for the Grumpy statement. Certainly was a wry effort at humor.

What other island ?

LOL!

I sent this PM to BW:
Neil,

I haven't seen the post in that thread since I unsubscribed from it. I'll take a look. I am sorry I even looked at that thread in the first place as I knew it would push my buttons. I still feel that sb.com (any section) is not a place to discuss that kind of thing as there are a lot a better forums on the internet with more knowledgeable people on the matter. No matter...in the future I will try and avoid the scupper section and other non-fishing sections for my own benifit. For the most part, I am only here to discuss fishing relatated topics with other fishermen.
-no hard feelings
-peace

Jim

PS..for the record, MV kicked the crap out of their football team this year ... But I don't hold it against them because the day they played they looked pretty ill just getting off the special ACK to MV boat...it was blowing 40 that day and many of you know that ride from ACK to MV can be pretty lumpy in blow.

Bloo - all I'm saying (and one of the two reasons I locked that thread) is that this is a fishing board first. 98.5% of topics are open, including the one on gay marriage, but it must be understood that its one thing to discuss it (on a fishing board) and another thing to end up degenerating into potential cyber fist-to-cuffs on something that is not fishing. In the grand scheme of things, important topics like this, or whether or not to go to war, party affiliations and standing on ones soap box are more important than a fishing board and should be handles in such a way once they go beyond the scope of this site, and this board in particular.

And how I left it on that thread:
Quote:
Again as for this topic, if someone wants to open it to DISCUSS it, that's fine with me. This psuedo-joking "fag ragging" has no place on this site and is really far off of our reason for being here.

Please keep it clean folks and at least semi-personable. Topics that are truly polarizing, such as religion, gay marriage, can go too far beyond the scope of this site.
The other main reason I closed the thread is that the joking had gone too far for a public section of a website - at least what we try to run. I'm not trying to force what I consider moral or not, just what might - in my opinion - be too toilet humourish or inappropriate when little 10 year old Sally is sitting in front of Dad's PC while he's in the library reading OTW.

There are venues for the nastily crude and humerous that can't be viewed by a pre-teen and a web browser.

Beach - partly my misunderstanding...
