Racepoint Stickers!

Well I thought I was going to get my ORV sticker today instead I ended up driving on the highway for six hours and spending $80.00 and not even getting my permit. I have never seen that many guy all trying to get sticker. Bomba you had the right idea of camping out there, now I got to go back down Monday to see if I can get it. Did anyone else go down there today and didn't end up with there permit?

Talking I got mine......

Stayed over last night, up at 4:00 am, hit Dunkin Doughnuts at 5:00 am when they opened, and got to the Race at 5:30 and it was already packed. Got in line with about 125 people ahead of me, and when I left at 11:15 there was about 200 or more people in line and it was a madhouse outside the lot all the way up to rt 6. Alot of unhappy campers alot of out of staters and people who drove a long way got turned away....they shut down Race Point Rd. and were turning people away by 8:30 am. What a mess. Fishchick and I were fortunate, we got our stickers and saw alot of people we knew there. Good luck to you guys who are headed down there....all I can say is get there early!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

People have known for quite awhile that April 10th is Race Point sticker day, so I would not say that the internet is fully to blame for it. One guy gave me the best reason I have heard yet.......the fact that the popularity in SUV's has risen so quickly, giving more people the access to the beach that they all want permits.....and most of those people will only go a very limited amount of times! Just my .02 cents.

Come on fishy....I am awaitn' for ya!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

I can't relax, am still steaming. It frost my arse that I have to drive all the way back down there now. I heard they had more guys doing traffic then working at the ranger station. That whole system they got up there is completely fudged. Sorry but I need to vent.

We walked Commercial Street for awhile Friday afternoon. Fishchick wanted to check out some shops while the men folk checked out my arse! What time did you leave the Race?

Bassmaster you are kidding yourself! Its "just" the internet??? Please! It is on the Race Point website (internet I know, but not the internet you are talking about....chat-room/sites etc), it is on the Race Point phone answering machine, and common knowledge to anyone who buys permits annually or desires to get one knows the opening annual date for permit sales has been, for the past at least five years, April 10th!!! You just don't like so many "outsiders" in your "backyard" BM. If that is your way of thinking, you need to change it, cause it ain't your backyard. Many of the people who were there to get permits pay taxes in this state and are as entitled to go there as you or any one else. Even the out of state folks pay taxes and the Federal government foots the bills at the National Seashore.

last time I drove that beach was back in 75,,,there's better places to catch fish without all the traffic an long lines..place has turned into a freak show..soon they'll be shutin the whole place down cause of the birds.....then you'll all be pissin about that...the nss should make it foot traffic only.....besides it not your right to drive on any beach....it's only a privilege that's going to be gone very soon.

BOAT fish do count.

BigFish - it's probably 80% the internet. Look at this site, we're not the biggest but for everyone that posts here (less striprman) we still have twice as many lurking throughout the day. So yea, it does have a big impact on it. Not the only, but sadly,a very large part... Another reason to discourage "Spot Talk"

Course some of the people on the other side of the bridge can't claim any exemption on it either

JohnR, nobody here mentioned that stickers were going on sale the 10th? Plus the fact that for the first time in quite awhile they went on sale on the first day on a Saturday......there is the biggest problem, everyone took the night and stayed down there. I was there, many of the motels were booked or at the very least quite full....all SUV's in the lots.

well i just got back from RP, to say the internet is the cause is BS in my book, of the twenty or so people that i talked to in line, not one of them were internet heros like all of us who are posting, we are our own worst enemy.

If anything made it worse, it was the cell phones. There were a hundred plus guys in the lot at 5:00 pm Friday. Most were standing on the highest point or on their vehicle calling friends.

But in all truthfulness, you had to be under a rock not to know what was going to happen. Every year it gets worse. Last year they sold 300+ permits on the 10th and it was a week day.

Everyone vowed last year not to wait and to be there on the 10th.

THAT is what got me in line at 2:00 am.

It was not the internet. It was experience, common sense and the weekend opening.

Race Point is a pretty cool place to fish. I like fishing right in the "bowl" where all the sand eels are. Sand eel rake, waders, a couple spinning rods, my old 4WD. I used to fish there, to far to drive. Good luck to all who venture out there.

My sticker # is 804 this year. I was there just before 6a.m. today and didn't see Rt. 6 again until after 2:30 PM. They will be gone by Thursday afternoon. Other than the yuppie assault vehicles (SUVs) , I noticed a lot of families (Mom, Dad, and driving teens )getting a sticker. What's up wit that?
